SEC is a collaborative enterprise supported by the Homes and Communities Agency. Established in 2005 to achieve procurement savings for social housing providers we’ve expanded the services to cover procurement, best practice exchange, performance and cost benchmarking and training.

Our training programme is constantly expanding. In 2013/14 SEC have put on 25 different training courses and in these trained a total of 371 delegates.

By using SEC’s collective buying power we’re able to offer members on average a 40% saving on courses. We promise high quality training at a reasonable price. We work with our training providers in partnership to provide tailored courses.

Asbestos Awareness

This course is aimed at those with little or no prior knowledge of asbestos. The course will cover:

This course is an abridged version of the Asbestos Awareness course and is aimed at those who have attended the Asbestos Awareness Course and need an update. The course covers:

Delegates will sit a 90 minute BOHS examination consisting of 40 short answer questions.

An approved practical assessor will carry out a practical assessment.

Candidates are required to demonstrate that they have carried out, possibly under supervision, two field surveys for asbestos, which must include sampling, analysis and a material assessment.This course will require 16 hours of study time (teaching and practical), some of which may need to be undertaken in the candidates own time.

Aim: / To provide background and practical knowledge in the surveying of buildings for asbestos and to provide general guidance on management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to any identified asbestos.
Suitable for: / Managers of asbestos contracts, project surveyors and those within the organisation who will be required to carry out Asbestos inspections.
Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG 264 (Asbestos: The Survey Guide) and have a minimum of six months prior experience of carrying out asbestos surveys.

HHSRS:

Implications for Social Landlord

Following the introduction of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), the law now requires a home to be free of serious (Category 1) hazards. Just one Category 1 hazard will mean that a property fails the Decent Homes standard, and also that a landlord may be exposed to the risk of legal action. The HHSRS is much broader than the fitness standard it replaced. It covers issues such as heating and insulation, condensation, falls, fire, electrics, carbon monoxide, noise, asbestos, etc. This course covers:
