DB29 HIMMELBJERGET CAMP GRANTS: Again this year, to encourage campers to become juvenile members of Lodge 29, we have changed our campership award structure.

$200 grants will be awarded to children who ARE Lodge 29 juvenile members themselves (note: there is still time to join before June and no cost for dues until age 21+)

$175 grants will be awarded to children of adult members of Seattle Lodge #29

After enjoying Himmelbjerget camp from June 23rd to 29th, campers are encouraged to attend the September 4th Lodge meeting to receive their checks in person.

How to apply for a campership: Campers, age 10 to 18, must write a letter to the Lodge with details about your membership, name of your parent, include a little about yourself and why you want to attend Himmelbjerget this summer. Remember to include your name, age, school grade and mailing address.

Send letters to Annelise Kromann , DB Lodge 29 Secretary, 314 3rd Ave S #4, Edmonds, WA 98020

Applications MUST be received no later than Monday, June 4th

so they can be read at June 6th Lodge meeting.

Visit Himmelbjerget Camp website http://nwdanishcamp.com/ for registration and other information

Himmelbjerget Danish Camp offers a unique opportunity for kids 10 to 18 to learn about the history, people, culture, language and traditions of Denmark, preserving Danish culture in the next generation while making new friends and having a ton of fun. This year’s theme is Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairytales.

DB LODGE 29 MINUTES: President Thomas Buus opened the April 3, 2013 meeting with the pledge of allegiance at 7:32 pm with 19 members and no guests in attendance. Past President Ken Kromann, Trustee Rasmus Madsen and Guard Amelia Jacobsen were absent. The March minutes were approved as printed and distributed by email. There were no new applications for membership.

Correspondence: Thank you note was read from the NWDA for the donation to Himmelbjerget. A letter was read from the Danish American Archive and Library, who is looking for a donation to store the large and heavy books containing records from the Danish Brotherhood. Their request was moved to new business.

Treasurer: The treasurer’s report was approved as read.

Committee Reports: Kenneth Olsen reported on soccer – the over 40 team just started – they lost one, but hope to win in the future. Bowling was a great success in Vancouver, BC, despite the 3 hours it took for some to make it to the alley! There were 32 bowlers from Seattle. The Seattle Danes got 1st Place and the 29 Ølmænd got 3rd place! There were bowling teams from Seattle, Tacoma & Olympia lodges as well as Melanie Berg, District Sisterhood President and Debbie Stevens, District Brotherhood President! A big thank you to Lexie Sorensen for all her work coordinating bowling this year! The District Convention is in Portland, OR this year on Friday, April 26th to April 27th. Delegates are Annelise Kromann, Chuck Larsen, and Corey Blackburn. Alternates are Annie Kromann, Frank Poulsen, and Todd Foster. Golf is scheduled for Saturday, July 6th.

New Business: There was a short discussion on what to donate towards the Danish Archives and it was decided to table the decision for another meeting. Congratulations to Lodge member & swimmer Thane Maudslien of Kennedy Catholic who won the 100 fly in 53.10 and becoming the first boy swimmer in state history to win the 100 fly four years in a row at state! CONGRATULATIONS THANE!

Announcements: Happy 85th Birthday to Otto Brask!

The small pot was won by Dean Larsen. The big pot could have been won by Kurt Rasmussen, Georg Pedersen, Elmer Wittman, James R Nelsen or Jesper D Hahn, but we will have to wait until next month to see who could win $200! Meeting was adjourned at 8:07 pm. Respectfully submitted by Secretary Annelise M Kromann.

SAD NEWS: Lodge 29 has lost two of our senior members this month. Services for Edith Kilgren will be held at 1pm on Sat. 4/27 at St. John’s Church.

Sadly, Minna Brask called today with the news of the passing of Holger Nielsen.

Two wonderful Danes will be very missed in our community.

SISTERHOOD EVERGREEN LODGE #40: Minutes of the meeting of April 3, 2013.

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. The roll of officers was read. Officers were present except for the Vice President, the co-1st Trustee, the 2nd Trustee and the Marshall, who were excused. Ruth Jensen stood in for the 1st Trustee.

Karen read correspondence from National Secretary, Ava Hansen. Ava informed us that due to a significant decline on returns of the investments held by the Sisterhood and the need to update the website, the National Board would not be offering camp grants for 2013. The Board will review the fiscal situation next year and hope to re-install camp grants in the future.

We have placed a ½ page ad in the program for the PNW District Convention. The cost for a ½ page ad is $60.00.

We voted for our lodge outstanding sister for the district convention. Anne Blackburn will prepare the nomination sheet and e-mail it to Karen.

Dina volunteered to put together a basket for the silent auction at the convention. Dina suggested that we put the baskets out both Friday and Saturday in order to get more bids.

Jette Bunch joined Lodge #40 on May 8, 1963. We would like to present her with her 50 year pin at our June meeting.

New business: Patti said that Thomas Buus indicated that there is still some discussion about having an all Dane picnic this summer at Jens’ place or maybe Normandy Park. Most of the members present thought that it was pretty late in the year to plan for a picnic this summer. Picnic planning should begin in January or February for the most successful event.

Thomas asked Patti to ask for volunteers to start working on the PNW District convention committee. The Seattle lodges will be hosting the convention in 2015. Dina indicated that she is willing to help.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m. until May 1, 2013.

.--Respectfully submitted, Karen Favero, Secretary/Treasurer
