The North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association is accepting nominations to elect new board members for the next term beginning July 1, 2015. The open nomination will be to elect eight (8) members (seats #1-8). Length of term is based on elected seat (i.e. odd numbered seats serve three years; even numbered seats serve two years). The transitional Board of Directors will elect the new board members in April 2015.The Regional Director members (seats #9-14) will be elected by members of the Association based on nominations from within the respective regions. The remaining members seats (#15-22) will be appointed as indicated.

The open nomination allows any member of the A&T community to nominate candidates to the Board. This includes self-nominations, alumni, faculty and staff. Through this process it is hopeful to engage and connect with a more diverse group of alumni who may want to serve in this capacity.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association responsible for governance and policy. Serving as a member of the Board is an opportunity to deepen and sustain engagement with the association and the university.

The Nominations Committee seeks to select those who are most qualified from the broad population of 50,000 plus alumni.An important goal of the selection process is to target a Board composition that is diverse among gender, race, creed, age, color, religion, national origin, gender expression, gender identity, disability, status as a disabled veteran of the Vietnam era, sexual orientation, thoughts/ideas, schools/colleges, generations, geographic location, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

This is an open nominations process in which nominees can be received from the entire university community including self-nominations. The nominations form will be made available via the website, Alumni Times e-newsletter and other communication channels.

All board members are expected to be actively engaged in the operation of the Alumni Association and to execute on the Association’s mission and goals. In addition, the following are specific responsibilities and expectations of board members:

·  Attend and actively participate in all Association Board of Directors meetings (at least 4 per year; including two in-person meetings)

·  Actively participate as a member of at least one Standing Committee

·  Be a knowledgeable ambassador for the university and the association

·  Attend Alumni Association Annual meeting, Alumni Reunion Weekend, Homecoming and other major university events

·  Attend Alumni Association and university events in respective region

·  Strongly engage fellow alumni in university/association programs and events

·  Be a member (paying appropriate dues) of the National Alumni Association

·  Support the university with an annual (fiscal year), tax-deductible gift of $1,000 or more

Board members are also expected to uphold the following:

·  Be a spokesperson in the community for the association and university

·  Assist the University and the Office of Alumni Relations in encouraging alumni participation with programs/events/activities

·  Offer ideas/resources to assist in making the Alumni Association more meaningful to alumni

·  Encourage support of the financial needs of the University’s teaching, research, and service mission

ABOUT THE NOMINEE

1.  To qualify as a nominee for the Board of Directors, the nominee must be an alumnus/alumna of North Carolina A&T State University; has actively participated in and supported the programs and activities of the association and the university; and has contributed to the university financially at some level.

2.  Strong nominees for the Board of Directors will generally have a multi-year and/or sustained track record of alumni involvement and service in leadership roles within the association and/or university.

3.  Ideal nominee will have engaged with the university community in multiple roles, and is currently serving at the time of nomination.These roles may include serving students, alumni chapter operations, event committees, regional activities, affinity groups, school/college advisory boards and/or other leadership activities with the university community.

4.  Nominee should possess the ability and willingness to give time and resources to support the association and the university.

5.  At minimum, nominees should have been involved in an alumni volunteer role with the association and/or university at some point after matriculation.

6.  Nominee should have served in some capacity in community leadership, board of director involvement and/or service to community organization (non-profit, association, etc.).
