Sealed bids will be received by the Yankton County Board of Commissioners in Yankton County Government Center, Yankton, SD until 11:00 am on Monday, April 4, 2016 for the following materials.

These materials are to be furnished as and when required by Yankton County for a period of one year from the effective date of the contract.

CRUSHED QUARTZITE

SPECIFICATIONS:

This specification covers three-eights inch (3/8”) quartzite chips to be used for cover material over MC-800R and MC-3000 cut-back asphalt for surface treatment on county roads.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The cover aggregate for asphalt surface treatments shall be crushed quartzite rock, free of dirt, vegetable, and other foreign material. The Type 2-A crushed quartzite shall conform to the current requirements for aggregates for asphalt surface treatments as per SDDOT Sec. 881 and meet the following requirements by dry weight:

Percentage passing 3/8 inch sieve: 100

Percentage passing #4 sieve: 20-70

Percentage passing #10 sieve: 0-20

Percentage passing #40 sieve: 0-4

L. A. Ab Loss, Maximum 40

Soundness Loss, Maximum 12

At least fifty (50) percent of material retained on the number four (4) sieves shall have two (2) or more fractured faces produced by crushing. A tolerance of three (3) percent in the amount passing the maximum size screen will be permitted providing all material passes a screen having one quarter (1/4) inch larger opening.

Yankton County must approve the roads used to haul in the chips.

Yankton County does not guarantee the minimum or maximum amount of materials to be purchased.

All materials will be paid for by the ton. Materials shall be weighed on a satisfactory scale with weight tickets being furnished with each load of material.

A contract or contracts may be awarded to the Company or Companies offering the most advantageous proposition to Yankton County.

All bids shall be in a sealed envelope or container, plainly marked “BID ON CRUSHED QUARTZITE”.

The Yankton County Board of Commissioners reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

The County will be accepting bids on approximately FIVE thousand (5000) tons of chips.
