Call For 10-Minute Play Scripts

Inner Views: Asian American Voices

Sponsored by San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater

WHO: San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater is a professional, non-profit performing arts organization, which has produced 33 plays, including four world premiers. SDAART recently won the Earnest M. Pon Memorial Award given by the National Association of Ethnic Studies for SDAART’s “wonderful history and collection of theater works that present Asian American culture with bounty and beauty.”

WHAT: SDAART’s new play festival Inner Views: Asian American Voices is intended to explore Asian American identities and experiences. Playwrights from all over the country are encouraged to submit new, original, never-produced plays, 5-10 minutes in length and less than 10 pages, that explore perspectives of Asian Americans (Pacific Rim or Indian Subcontinental cultures). Selected plays will be produced by SDAART from May 14-22 2010 with local directors, actors, designers, and dramaturgs.

WHEN: Deadline for submission is February 1, 2010. Playwrights will be notified of acceptance by March 1, 2010.

WHERE: Inner Views: Asian American Voices will be produced at Mesa College in San Diego during Asian Heritage Month – May 14-22 2010 – in celebration of SDAART’s 15th anniversary.

HOW: Email submissions in Word or PDF format to . Type your full name in the subject line. (If you prefer to mail hard copies, you may send two copies of your script to SDAART’s P.O. Box.) Please include a bio (100-words or less), and full contact information including a home address and phone number. Playwrights may submit a maximum of two plays. No entry fee required. Winners will receive a new playwright certificate and production of their scripts. All authors agree to permit SDAART to produce their contest entry play if the theatre should wish to do so. Authors retain copyright and full ownership of their plays.
