Attention all parents & Carers of Year 9 pupils!!!!

Your child will soon be preparing and making choices for their entry into Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11). As such their teachers will be preparing them for examinations and our vocational co-ordinator (Diane Hughes) will be asking them to think and make choices about their preferred vocational courses. They will be meeting with their Connexions worker* and talking about their future in education, employment or training.

In some cases year 9 pupils may already be entered for exams so they may have already talked to you about their hopes and fears!

I thought then that I would take this opportunity to outline what their pathway is and could be for Key Stage 4 and beyond.

At TGS we offer 4 GCSE qualifications. These are;

  • English (AQA)
  • Maths (EdExcel)
  • Science (OCR)
  • Media (AQA)

In addition to these and as a ‘safety net’, we offer Functional Skills qualifications in;

  • Maths (Edexcel) Levels 1&2
  • English (AQA) Levels 1&2
  • Computing (EdExcel) Levels 1&2

An extremely important part of our Key Stage 4 suite of learning are our BTEC qualifications. At TGS we offer the following;

  • BTEC Level 1 (Award, Certificate and Diploma) in Construction
  • BTEC Level 1 (Award, Certificate and Diploma) in Art & Design
  • BTEC Level 1 (Award, Certificate and Diploma) in IT Users

In addition to this, your child can achieve BTEC and other vocational qualifications from Northampton College, Moulton College or from our own Vocational Learning Centre (VLC) where they can achieve a BTEC level 1 in Construction and The Built Environment for example.

I have attached our BTEC information flyer so that you can take a closer look and if you have any questions about these or any of the other qualifications or progression pathways please do not hesitate to contact us.
