The meeting was called to order by President Jan Cox at 4:27pm.
Phil Macchia explained the electronic voting system and stated that this was the second year of only being able to vote electronically. There was one candidate for Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Don Shuman will be the new VP, Eric Stewart the new Treasurer and Jessica Campbell the new Secretary. Welcome to the Board.
Jeff Metz presented the Central District merit award to Brown Simpson of Fort Mill. Congratulations Brown.
Executive Director Jim Headley’s report:
He would like to thank the Board and Executive Committee for their support. He would also like to thank the sponsors of the conference. Good job to Mark Sexton and John Taylor for raising over $50,000 in sponsorships. Please thank them when you see them.
One area of particular concern is budget cuts and potential loss of members. Some departments have stopped paying for staff memberships or only paying partial dues;but all in all the association is financially stable.
The association continues to offer educational opportunities. Education &training was the #1 reason people joined the association. This replaced networking. A few of the educational opportunities is playground safety inspector and front line customer service training. Education & training will be job one until membership decides otherwise.
SC LEAD registration is open, please nominate someone. 32 registered last year and only 12 are accepted. The class is a 9 month intense program.

Legislation is a struggle everyday with elected members not knowing the importance of parks & plans. We need to educate the people going to Columbia. The legislation asked the association to help with summer camp guidelines and swimming pool regulations. Swimming pool regulations haven’t been rewritten since the 70’s.
The awards task force is the most diverse committee ever put together to redo the awards process. A new survey will go out this fall regarding the awards process.
Thank you for allowing me to serve and what an honor it is. South Carolinians are some of the most dedicated people in parks & recreation.
Make the most out of the conference.
Jan Cox-
The board is very solid. Thank you to everyone who has given to the association and especially Tom O’Rourke.
There being no new business the meeting adjourned at 4:52pm
Respectfully submitted,
Paul McCulloch
SCRPA Secretary
