SCRIPTURE PRAYER EXAMPLE

Scripture prayer for endurance in the Christian walk and for the perfecting of faith, using Hebrews 12:1-3:

Father, since our I55 sons and daughters are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, may they lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset them, and run with patience the race that is set before them – looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of their faith. For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. May they consider Jesus, Who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, so that they will not be wearied and faint in their minds. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

YOUR PRAYER TIME

PRAISE: First take time to praise the Father, Son, and Spirit and bring thank offerings. Psalm 100:4 tells us to “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”

Week 1: Read Isaiah 55:1-3. “Come.” How beautiful is this eternal invitation that we find endearingly presented by the prophet, Isaiah. We find the same warm, pleading appeal recorded by the Apostle John in Revelation 22:17:

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come.

And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Come, with a thirst to find God. You will be satisfied. Come empty, for there are no means by which to purchase eternal life. Come humbly, and receive the free gift. Come penniless, hopeless, condemned and be granted mercy undeserved. The most prevalent, hell-conceived deception in our society today is that good works can somehow achieve a reward of Heaven. Without faith in Jesus Christ, there is no invitation, no standing before God, no hope, no covenant of love.

[Moses] “Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.” (Deuteronomy 7:9)

[Nehemiah] said: “I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments.” (Nehemiah 1:5)

[Daniel] prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O LORD, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments.” (Daniel 9:4)

Come, love Him as did David. Keep His commands as did Moses. And continue wholeheartedly in His way as did Daniel. God Himself has promised His covenant of love and mercy to all who do, the same “everlasting covenant … even the sure mercies of David” (Isaiah 55:3). And in coming, you will pass on a legacy of faith and followship.

I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois,

and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. (II Timothy 1:5)

Week 2: Read II Corinthians 6:1-10. I lived one of my dreams this past week – reconnecting with my childhood pastor. Pastor Jack and his wife, Shirley, came from Georgia to Pennsylvania to reconnect with my parents and others who were part of a church plant in Johnstown, PA back in the 60s. At this small gathering of 30-40 folks (missing were many who are already residents of Heaven), Pastor Jack shared a brief devotion on positioning ourselves to be blessable. As I read today’s passage, I ponder living under the waterspout of God’s favor, His blessing.

The world will reject that the Apostle Paul garnered God’s favor – that troubles, hardship, distresses, beatings, imprisonment, sleepless nights, hunger, etc. could ever be considered a blessing.

Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked… I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers… I have known hunger and thirst… I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. (II Corinthians 11:24-28)

But God was glorified, the churches flourished under intense persecution, multitudes were saved, and Paul’s invaluable letters have inspired believers throughout the centuries. Paul was fully persuaded that God was faithful and that “now is the time of God’s favor.” He lived fully in the present, in his “now.”

We too can live fully persuaded in the present, confident that in sacrificing and investing our time in the Word and in prayer now, our sons and daughters will one day live in the fruit of our “now” moments.

Sisters … the time is short. (I Corinthians 7:29)

I commend you who are willing to pray today to invest in your son’s and daughter’s tomorrows. Time will slip away if we let it. Today’s noise and distractions will rob us of tomorrow’s blessing. Failure to pray today will fail a whole generation’s tomorrows – the John 4:23 generation that God seeks:

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers

will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth,

for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

At the center of my heart’s desire today lies a passion for this generation to experience a large-scale revival in their tomorrows. Pray with me for a spiritual awakening in this generation. Pray today and tomorrow and the next, until we and our sons and daughters live in the fruit of the “now” moments. For now is the time, and it is always “now.”

And do this, understanding the present time:

The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber,

because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. (Romans 13:11)

THANKSGIVING: Honor God by remembering His blessings and recall answered prayers. “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:23

CONFESSION: Now take time to allow the Spirit to counsel your heart to prepare you to come before the throne. Isaiah 59:2 states “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” But I John 1:9 states “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

INTERCESSION: Lastly, know that the LORD delights when we come with bold prayers before His throne. He awaits our prayers. Hebrews 4:14-16.

Thank you for your faithful prayers. Revelation 5:8 – “And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.”
