Dear Colleague

New Registrations, Entries & Results Guides – Employers and Training Providers

This letter is to advise you that we intend to issue a new guide to registrations, entries and results, explaining all the key processes in detail, shortly. The guide will be issued in two parts:

  • Guidance on registrations and entries, to be issued 3 September 2001
  • Guidance on results, to be issued early in November 2001.

In the meantime, please follow your usual procedures for registration of new candidates and entry for SQA qualifications. You may wish, however, to note the following points:

  • All candidates who wish to enter for SQA qualifications must be registered with a valid Scottish Candidate Number (SCN). Many of your candidates will already have been allocated SCNs at their secondary school in S3 or S4, but please ensure that details of all new registrations eg candidates newly resident in Scotland, are sent to us. Registrations may be sent electronically or on paper, using the appropriate forms.
  • Please ensure that you are approved to offer the National Units and Courses for which you wish to enter candidates. If you intend to present candidates in a qualification and you want to check your approval status, you can do this by contacting the Approval Section. Any identified gaps in qualifications approval need to be filled by gaining qualifications approval, and applications should be made to our Approval Section immediately.

If you wish to discuss approval issues please contact the Approval Section on (0141) 242 2122 or e-mail.

  • Please ensure that there are at least 10 weeks between candidate entry and the completion date of the qualifications. The completion date for a group award is the date when the candidate is expected to have completed all of the contributing units and is considered to have qualified for the group award itself. If you have any enquiries about Entries, please telephone (0141) 242 2265 or e-mail .
  • A minor improvement has been made to the Individual Registration/Entry Form RE01, giving you an additional facility to amend candidate details along with entering them for a qualification. Copies of the amended form will be sent to you shortly. If you do not receive these new forms, please telephone (0141 242 2265 or e-mail . Apart from this minor change, we have decided NOT to alter forms for this session.

This letter will be published on the SQA web site for your reference, as will the registrations, entries and results guides as soon as they are available. However, please do not hesitate to contact the staff noted above or your Customer Relations Manager if you have any queries or concerns before the full guides reach you.

Yours faithfully

Tom Drake
