SCOTT RADEKER NAMED AS NEW OEMS DEPUTY DIRECTOR

SCOTT RADEKER, FORMERLY WITH LIFEFORCE AND HUTCHESON MEDICAL CENTER EMS HAS BEEN NAMED AS THE NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF EMS AND TRAUMA. sCOTT WILL BE AT THE NEXT REGION 1 EMS COUNCIL MEETING IN RINGGOLD ON AUGUST 27 AT 11 AM. he will be based at the 2600 skyland drive office welcome scott.

don starnes announces retirement

don starnes, director of bartow county ems has announced his plans for retirement. don was an original member of bartow county ems and has served both as the region 1 ems council chair as well as the emsac representative. a retirement party is scheduled at bartow ems for 11:00 – 1:00 on september 9. please rsvp to larry owens at 770-387-5160. don will also be recognized at the next ems council meeting on august 27. we will miss you don.

new mechanism for ems instructor screening

The office of ems has established an easier and more convenient method of screening ems instructor candidates. this method involves taking their screening exams in conjunction with scheduled national registry exams. for more information, contact david loftin or david foster at the region 1 ems office.

change in policy for mark 1 kits

the office of ems has established a new policy on mark 1 kits on ambulances and first responder vehicles. the kits will no longer be required. however, new duodose kits will be supplied to all services in pickens, cherokee, bartow and paulding counties as well as those in the metro atlanta area. do not discard the kits. a mechanism will be established soon to turn them in. however, they may be removed from the units and stored immediately.

the first critical care paramedic course co-sponsored by west central technical college and ambucare ems was a tremendous success. all students passed the final exam. the course was held from june 15 to july 7. services employing these personnel may charge more FOR CRITICAL care interfacility transports. congratulations to all.

GEORGIA PREPARES FOR SWINE FLU

GEORGIA IS PREPARING FOR A POSSIBLE SWINE FLU PANDEMIC. WE HOPE THAT THIS PANDEMIC NEVER OCCURS BUT WE MUST BE PREPARED. PARAMEDICS HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO GIVE FLU SHOTS IN NEEDED TO SUPPLEMENT PUBLIC HEALTH EFFORTS FOR MASS IMMUNIZATION. PLEASE REVIEW INJECTION TECHNIQUES BY THE SUBCUTANEOUS ROUTE. ADDITIONAL PERSONAL PROTECTION KITS ARE BEING FUNDED BY ASPR PROGRAM FOR EMS. THE VACCINE WILL BE GIVEN TO PRIORITY CASES FIRST INCLUDING EMS AND MAY BE AVAILABLE IN EARLY OCTOBER.
