Current Events: On Thursday, the children got to see their 4th Grade friends do a dress rehearsal of their music program. On Thursday of next, it will be Ms. Turner’s last day of teaching with us. She will be going to teach 5th Graders at Plains Elementary for the next 8 weeks. On Friday, the 1st Grade teachers rotate instruction and I will be teaching Math Lab, Ms. Cox will teach Science, and Mrs. Flint will be the Social Studies teacher for the 2nd nine weeks.

Science: This week our focus has been on liquids and gases. We had the opportunity to see what happens when water is warmed and changes into water vapor. Students practiced making scientific observations in writing and in drawing to begin to understand the changes they see during experiments.

Language Arts:We continue learning upper case letters strokes for Q and O. They wrote birthday wishes and drew pictures for Dustyn and Taylor. Please encourage your child to use the strokes that we’re learning in any writing to practice and apply what they’re learning. Writing the strokes incorrectly will make it more difficult when he/she transitions to cursive print in 2nd Grade.

Social Studies: With Ms. O’Connor this week the children watched a PowerPoint about different kinds of shelters and why people choose certain shelters. Then, they drew their shelters/homes.

Math:This week we have beenreviewing and making tally marks. They have counted and graphed items, making bar graphs to show the different sorted groups. We have started to look for ways we use graphs everyday in our classroom such as keeping our lunch count and tracking the weather. Today, they worked with a partner to sort, tally, and make a graph of their collection of Skittles.
