Guidelines for Working-Groups Sessions

Main objective

-Toencourage interactions among participants in order to identifyresearch themes on the frontiers of STI policy design and implementationlooking for opportunities of cooperation between British and Brazilians researchers and institutions.

General recommendations

-Group-size: minimum three, maximum six

-At least one researcher from Brazil and from UK

-Groups can be proposed using different sorts of issues, e.g. by sector; field of knowledge; theoretical approach; target (e.g. economic and social development); or any other kind of indexation.

-One (or more) member(s) of the scientific committee should act as mentors

Dynamics

-1st session (Wednesday afternoon):

  • Taking into account the individual interest subjects proposed by participants in their posters, organizers will present a first consolidation of themes in order to kick-off an open discussion to define the main set of themes and challenges to be addressed in future research proposals.
  • One theme/challenge corresponds to one working-group
  • Participants are requested to sign-inone Group for discussion;and they can register interest in another Group.
  • For discussion, groups must define one chair and one rapporteur.
  • A template will be supplied to help groups detailing their themes/challenges (Annex 1).
  • The reporting back after the second session can be done on flip chart or power point (easier to share later on)

-2nd session (Friday morning):

  • Groups will meet to develop the themes/challenges looking for future cooperation.
  • Pre-proposals are expected to be outlined by the end of the session.
  • One Group can outline more than one pre-proposal.
  • A template will be supplied to groups to outline the pre-proposals (Annex 2).
  • Groups are supposed to present their results by the end of the session.
