2/25/17 PASC Vice Chair Report, by Rachel A
Good morning, here is my report for the month of February 2017.
I am hereby announcing my resignation as Vice Chair of PASC, effective March 31, 2017. I will be available to help facilitate the smooth transition of my replacement.
I choose to see that my higher power put me here, as a recovering member of Narcotics Anonymous, to take part in a relatively delicate time for our area. It is never an easy undertaking to have hard conversations in our own personal lives, and that we as an area of NA decided to have one of them on this level is in my opinion reflective of the nature of us, the addicts representing this area. I thank the members in service that took part in showing up for and handling to the best of our ability such a multi-faceted, far-reaching and at times delicate issue. Thank you as well to the other executive officers of this panel as well as all the participating members of NA, without which our efforts would not have gone very far.
I hope that the important steps we made as a fellowship continue past my tenure, and grow in purpose as Narcotics Anonymous strives to grow as the society it exists within grows. Thank you so much, Portland Area Service Committee.
In service,
Rachel A.

Good afternoon fellow members, We met on the 2nd Sunday with several first-time visitors and one second time visitor who gave their verbal commitment. The PAAS (Portland Area ActivitiesCommittee) ad-hocs have been meeting regularly with numerous group conscience suggestions being presented to the PAAS body. This subcommittee is functioning with multiple events per month and many members active in service. The activities phone line is up and running for direct communication with our coordinators. For event information please see the in a calendar at a glance, the website at www.portlandna.com, or Call 1-866-344-1805 Also, if you haven't joined our secret social media page and wish to please call the 866 number or send an email to . The bylaw Review Committee submitted its draft for approval. There was no opposition to any of the suggestions that the by law Review Committee presented except for a suggestion to amend the summary description of the social media coordinator and gratitude coordinator. We have initiated contact with the PR subcommittee to discuss this possible change and cooperation. In an effort to create transparency and success we will today be presenting a proposal to increase the working capital by a total of$300 overall due to increasesin overallrents and supplies. This proposal is being submitted ahead of the suggested guideline changes that we anticipate submitting next month. Our currentbylaws require a separate proposal for these financial changes. We did have discussion about creating alternate positions for officers. Nominations for secretary, treasurer, vice-chair, RCM, Alternate RCM, and chairperson were all made. All nominations were unopposed except for one. This body is open to new membership and any members with time that have step, tradition, and conceptexperience.
As mentioned in our current by-laws, The Purpose of the PAAS is to:A) Tocarrythe message of NA and celebration of recovery by providing activities for the NA fellowship. B) To promote Unity within the fellowship of NA. C) Provide funds to the PASC.We meet the Second Sunday of the month at 2 p.m on Southeast 55th and Belmont and ALL are welcomed and encouraged to partake.

Business Meetings:
Our business meeting took place on February 25th, 2017 at 11 am. Our next business meeting will be on March 25th at 11 am at 5535 SE Rhone St.
All are welcome, wanted, and needed.
We also set up an Outreach Google account. Email any questions, volunteer interests, or needs from Outreach at .
Task/project reports:
GSR Orientation
Thanks to MaryBeth for shadowing to be a GSR Orientation leader. Those who have served at the group or area level, preferably as a GSR, who are interested in teaching the GSR Orientation, come to our business meeting or email us. We would love ideally to have 4 people who could lead it, and rotate it out.
Access to NA
This is an effort to provide translation services for members of the Portland area who don’t speak English.
We are looking for a Fundraising Coordinator to organize or oversee fundraising events and/or ongoing projects. We also need to look into low-cost interpretation services (less than $25/hr) in a variety of languages. If you know of any or want to help us network and look, email us or come to the next business meeting.
The third phase of our project will be letting treatments centers, other fellowships, and other points of contact or service providers for addicts know that we have translation services available so that addicts who want to hear the NA message in the Portland area in their own language can attend our meetings.
Supporting Struggling Meetings
Outreach is available to help facilitate business meetings of groups that are struggling. If your homegroup is locked in conflict which chokes the atmosphere of recovery, Outreach members can bring some of our service literature and our experience to help neutrally support all the trusted servants create service positions and procedures that allow the meeting to thrive and keep carrying the message. Email us at if your group could use some help.
Outreach is interested in hearing about other struggles that meetings are having and can be available for support or suggestions, with issues like struggling to meet the 7th tradition/rent amount, or with visiting treatment centers, problems with the facility, etc. Email us if you would like support from Outreach for your meeting.
In Times of Illness
Thank you, Dennis, for your service. In Times of Illness continues to thrive. Contact us if you need a meeting brought to you or a loved one. 2 meetings were brought to people this last month. Also, contact us if you would like to be on the phone tree of members willing to bring a meeting into a sick or struggling member.
Outreach Behind the Walls
Shannon G. has resigned from her position as interim female coordinator. We give her a heartfelt thanks for her tremendous dedication and wonderful organizational skills. We love and thank you, Shannon!!! Chopper S. is doing an awesome job putting new energy into the program and carrying it forward. Most of our efforts are currently concentrated on reaching out to the facilities and letting them know we are here for inmates to correspond with, as well as updating our Behind the Walls supporting materials. Also, thank you to our wonderful fellowship for stepping up to write letters. We have more volunteers than letters currently, but still let us know if you would like to write. As we get more response from inmates, we will quickly orient and consistently support our penpals. Thanks!
Learning Days
Thank you so much, everyone, for your participation in this month’s Learning Days (and being so patient with your Outreach Chair’s babysitting fallout). It is always an inspiration to explore these topics with our fellowship and learn about our principles through sharing our wisdom and experience!! Attached to this month’s report will be copies of the discussion worksheets created for the workshops as well as the presentations each group created from their discussion. We’ve already heard from a few members that the material helped them or their homegroup, so that’s awesome. That’s what Outreach is here for: help meetings thrive and connect and receive support from the fellowship and service structure of the area at large.
In ever-humbling gratitude,
Your Outreach Chair, Sarah C.

Public Relations report 2/25/17
Schedule:
One thousand schedules were ordered for the ASC on 2/25/17 as we had so many left overs from last month. As more people rely on the website for the schedule we need fewer printed versions.
The order was somewhat delayed, waiting for an address for the men's meeting that moved from Scappoose to St. Helens. The form that accompanied the email did not have anything on it, and the person who submitted it has not yet responded with that information. The meeting is temporarily in the schedule as St. Helens, with no address.
Burnside Blues and Multiculture, which are not meeting due to facility issues, have not been removed. However, as it is misleading to list a meeting that isn't meeting, that will be updated before next month, including the abbreviated replacement Burnside Blues that's meeting M-W-F at another location. There was a slight hiccup with Office Depot pickups, which is being handled to prevent a repeat.

Phoneline:
Currently we only have one open shift which is Wednesday's 12pm-6pm. There is one volunteer we are waiting to hear back from to orient, and two more are on hold to orient when their schedules open up.
This months bill was $22.81. This keeps us on track with our predicted expense. As the bill is split between the three areas in shared service we are still within the appropriate cost we had hoped for.
Thank you for the service opportunity

Website:
Not a lot happening this month. There have been several meeting updates sent in recently, some of which I have completed and some I will get to soon. As of now all meeting minutes are up to date on the site. All events are up to date as well.
I have been looking for a candidate to replace me but have not had much luck. I would like to vacate the position by the end of 2017, so if anyone knows someone who is good with computers and is trainable, please send them my way so we can get the training process started. I have held this position for a little over 3 years at this point and I believe it is time to move on. Of course, if we cannot find a suitable replacement I will not abandon the position. I just wanted to put it out there.
Thank you for allowing me to be of service

Chair:
Guidelines have been submitted for approval to the secretary. We would like to welcome Alina to her new position as flyer coordinator and thank her for her service.
I would also like to thank Ryan for all of his hard work on the website and would like to invite anyone who is interested in the website coordinator position to contact us here: or come and see us at our subcommittee meeting held the Thursday before area at Trinity unity church, 3915 SE Steele.
Yours in service,
~Zak F
