BiologyTest Corrections Information Sheet

Test Corrections is offered Thursday afternoons from 2:10 to 3:10. Each session is on a ‘first-come first-served’ basis and is limited by number of available desks. During this time, students are expected to work quietly and independently under the supervision of a biology teacher who is available to answer questions. Students whose conduct does not meet these standards will be asked to leave and/or will not receive credit.

What would I use the Test Corrections time to do?

  • Improve upon quiz or test if redone or completed in the allotted Test Corrections time. Students may improve a maximum of two assignments per quarter (e.g. 2 tests, or 1 quiz and 1 test, etc…).
  • You may correct any attempted quiz or test questions (see‘BiologyTest Corrections Re-Grade Procedures’) and regain up to 50% of the points that you missed. For example, 16 points originally earned on a 32-point quiz (an F) but re-graded can result in a new score of 24 points (8 points on the re-grade plus the original 16 points – a new grade of a C).
  • Corrections must be made within two weeks of getting the assessment back from your teacher.
  • Test Corrections work must be done in allotted Test Corrections time. When you have completed the quiz or test it must be turned into the Test Corrections proctor who will stamp and then return it to the appropriate teacher (do not take your re-grade with you).

What can I not do in Test Corrections?

  • You cannot get points for individual questions that were left blank or answered with the infamous “IDK”.
  • You cannot bring friends with you to Test Corrections.
  • You cannot get help from other students.
  • You cannot just come in and ask for a stamp regarding work that you completedoutside of Test Corrections. You have to complete the work in Test Corrections in order to get a Test Corrections stamp.

BiologyTest CorrectionsRe-Grade Procedures

Points are only given for following the procedure:

  • Prepare a separate piece of paper to be your re-grade. Title with your name, date, teacher and assignment. Do not make corrections on the original quiz orexam.
  • Staple your re-grade sheet on the front of your original quiz or exam.
  • Re-grades must be given to the biology teacher in charge of the Test Corrections before leaving the Test Corrections session. They will stamp and pass it on to your teacher.
  • For short answer and essay questions, you must totally rewrite your answer on the re-grade sheet to make it more complete and/or correct.
  • For true-false, matching, and multiple choice questions, you must do three things for each missed question to earn re-grade points:

a)Using complete sentences, briefly explain WHY your answer was scientifically incorrect. Do not write why you chose the wrong answer (e.g. “I guessed”).

b)Using complete sentences, briefly explain what the correct answer is (more than just “a” or “b”).

c)Write the page number in the textbook where the correct answer/information is found.

  • Note: original question and choices do not need to be rewritten.
  • Hint: enough information should be provided that your teacher can evaluate your re-grade WITHOUT looking at the original test.

EXAMPLE: Original Question: What is the function of mitochondria?

  1. Make sugarsb. Convert sugars to ATP

Re-grade (what should be written):

a)My answer of a (make sugars) is incorrect because that is actually the job of the chloroplast in plants.

b)The correct answer is convert sugars to ATP because theyconvert food molecules (sugar) into more convenient molecules (ATP) for the cells to use.
