Science OGT Review: Compass Learning

We will be using Compass Learning as a tool to prepare you for the Science Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). You will be given weekly assignments that must be completed and will be counted as part of your grade. The Science part of the OGT is Thursday March 15, 2012.

There are basically 4 kinds of science on the OGT: Physical, (like CPE), Earth (like 8th grade) Biology and Scientific Inquiry (like scientific method, experimental design). I have set up assignments for you that are mandatory in each one, except Bio. Bio is optional, since it is probably pretty fresh in your mind.

Here’s what to do:

1.Go to: If you’re doing this atschool, there is

an icon on the desktop.

2. On the right hand side of the webpage, type in your username(firstnamelastname),

password (auroralunchcode), and school (acsd)

3. There are topics listed like this:

4. Click on each one and it opens like a

folderand shows you the actual assignments. Like this:

5. When you click on one of those, it looks like

this:

6. For the Physical science (and Bio, if you

choose) You will be given pre-tests for each assignment which will determine your “learning pathway.” If you get 70% on a pretest, you can skip that lesson! If you score less than 70%, it shows you some videos, and stuff. You’ll need to take notes on the videos to help you review and retake the test. If you don’t pass the second time, it loops you around again, but not forever! You’ll hand in the notes.

7. When you are done with a section, print off

the results to hand in to me (along with your notes). To do this, click my portfolio and you’ll see this:

8. Click print. These are due at the beginning

of class on the due dates listed below (Fridays, mostly)

9. The Earth Science is a little different and

looks like this:

Instead of being broken down by benchmark, it’s just a series of lessons and a few quizzes to take after the lesson. You won’t have to retake these quizzes. Just watch the lessons take notes and hand them in with your printed results from your portfolio.

You can always feel free to work ahead (do the next assignment if you have one done), but the dates listed below are due dates. Those assignments must be done by those dates. They will be graded for completion in the 15% classwork/homework category.

Assignments and Due Dates:

  1. Friday January 27 Science OGT Prep- CPE Benchmark A (atomic structure)
  2. Friday February3 Science OGT Prep- CPE Benchmark B/C (bonds, chemical equations, acids/bases, states of matter)
