Guidelines for Applicants

Purpose

Parks Victoria presents the Nancy Millis Science in Parks Awardto recognise an outstanding contribution to fostering excellence in applied science (cultural, environmental, economic and social) for the benefit of park management by an individual and/or teams.

Applications will need to demonstrate a scientific innovation or application which has resulted in a change in management practice. Ideally, the results could be applied across a range of parks and/or environments.

Application Process

  • Applications must be made on the official application form and include all supporting documentation.
  • Applications close at 5pm on April 16th.Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Applications should be compiled into one file and saved in either DOCxor PDF format using the naming convention LastName_Project_Name (e.g. Nguyen_Declining_Krakens)

Condition of Award Nomination

  • Parks Victoria may use project information for promotional purposes.

Notification of results and Award presentation

  • The Award recipient/sshould be notified of the result of their application byFriday18th May.
  • TheSelection Committee’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • It is anticipated the Award will beannounced on World Environment Day, TuesdayJune 5th. It is expected that the winner/s will be able to attend a presentation.

Award Eligibility (in no particular order)

  • The award is open to Parks Victoria staff, researchers and practitioners working in fields of natural and social sciences relating to park management.
  • Projects must have been undertaken on parks and/or reserves managed by Parks Victoria.
  • The project must not have been completed more than 5years ago.
  • The project demonstrates innovation and/or scientific achievement in park management.
  • The project has resulted in a change in park management practice.
  • The results can be applied across a range of ecosystems.
  • The project showed clear evidence of mutual benefit to Parks Victoria and the partner organisation/s if they have been involved.
  • Applications which exceed the word limit will not be considered.

Selection Process

  • If necessary, Parks Victoria reserves the right to consult with Park Managers to determine a short-list.
  • Applications will then be referred to the Nancy Millis Science in Parks Award Selection Committee.
