Prerequisites: A grade of “C” or better in Algebra 1 is recommended
Full Year Course (1 Credit / Trimester)
Available to: Grade(s) 10-12
Standards met: MN Academic Standards in Chemistry
Course Description:
Chemistry is the study of the properties and composition of matter and the changes matter undergoes. In this course, you will investigate traditional topics such as atomic theory, periodicity and bounding. Lectures and class discussions will provide a foundation for laboratory experiments and activities. Videos, demonstrations, and group work will also be used to better understand the world we live in.

Course Requirements:
- Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings. Tardies count. Your parents will be notified after your fourth tardy and you will be referred to the assistant principal after the sixth tardy.
- A calculator may be required some days. Students will need a calculator that does scientific notation and has a “log” key (~$10.00)
- Be quiet and attentive during lectures, notes, tests, and videos. Participate in labs and group activities.
- Due to safety regulations, food and beverage are not allowed in the science classroom. You may have water at your seats in clear plastic bottles. Confiscated items will not be returned.
- Assignments not turned in at the beginning of the class or when requested are considered late.
- Bring materials and be prepared for class.
- Respectful, safe, and courteous behaviors are expected at all times. Rules on the lab safety contract must be followed at all times. Failure to do so may result in loss of points or loss of laboratory privileges.
Grading Procedures:
Please refer to your individual teacher for specifics on their grading procedures.
Grades are determined from the total possible points according to the following:
