SCI Benner Township Reports Inmate Death
Bellefonte, PA – SCI Benner Township Superintendent Tammy Ferguson, today, reported the death of inmate Phillip Jackson, 24.
At approximately noon on June 5, Jackson was found hanging in his cell. Prison staff immediately responded and performed life saving measures. The inmate was transported by emergency medical services to Mount Nittany Medical Center and later was transferred to Altoona Hospital, where he died at approximately 1 p.m. today.
Jackson had been at the prison since January 2016 serving a 6- to 12-year sentence for robbery on a Philadelphia County conviction.
The inmate’s next of kin has been notified.
As is the case with all inmate deaths, Pennsylvania State Police will conduct an investigation, and the county coroner will determine the cause of death.
