Dear FIMO Users,

We modified the formula for FIMO as early as 1 ½ years ago. As a result of changes in international legal regulations, we adapted the FIMO formula accordingly even before these regulations came into effect – this not because our product had become unsafe, but because the regulations became stricter, as has happened in many sectors. As a brand manufacturer, we committed ourselves to fulfil the legal requirements at an early stage. The law entered into effect on 01/01/2007.

The modification of the formula has resulted in 2 trifling changes:

-FIMO now remains fresh for longer!

-FIMO can be hardened at an oven temperature of only 110°C!

We have adjusted the hardness of our FIMO to be exactly the same as that of the “old” FIMO. Two blocks fresh from the machine, one “old”, one “new”, could not be told apart.

We have, however, significantly improved the ageing performance of the material. You can now keep FIMO much longer and still experience no problems in kneading it to a pliable dough.

We have improved this aspect because many FIMO fans had written to tell us that, over time, FIMO became hard and crumbly – we value your views!

The “new” FIMO could give you the impression that FIMO is now softer than before, in particular if you live outside Germany, but this is not true: it has merely stayed fresher!

Should you not take to this freshness, you can, however, still regain the substance’s traditional hardness using a little trick:

place the FIMO between two layers of absorbent paper (e.g. blotting paper or kitchen roll) and leave it there until it is as hard as you need it to be (c.1-2 days). This trick is recommended in particular for miniature modelling.

FIMO can now be hardened at a mere 110°C and you can thus achieve the optimal result! By reducing the hardening temperature, we have made FIMO even safer, reducing the danger of overheating yet further! However, even if you accidentally harden FIMO at 130°C as before, you will hardly notice the difference. It is a little more elastic than was previously the case, but this is normally not noticeable.

In the numerous tests we carried out, the mixing of “old” and “new” has to date created no problems either, neither in working/kneading nor in the hardening process.

Our success over the last 1 ½ years proves the point:

FIMO is still the FIMO you knew and loved – only ever so slightly better!
