School Swimming Carnivals

Last Thursday and Friday the grade 3/4 and 5/6 swimming carnivals were held at the Hobart Aquatic Centre. The aim of our carnivals is always maximum participation and fun. It was great to see most students entered every single event and finished with a huge smile on their face. I would like to thank the grade 6 house captains for their wonderful support in the grade 3/4 carnival.

Captains completed official roles and also helped students in the water throughout the day, this assistance even continued in their carnival, which shows great character and excellent sportsmanship. Helping someone else out is one of the best things you could ever do. I was also impressed with the encouragement and support that all students gave each other across both days.

I would like to say a big thanks to all the staff and parents who helped out, a special mention must go to Mrs Margaret Bresnehan (chief time keeper), Sian Ettershank and her parents (Recording) and Dave Waller (photography) who all volunteered their time.

There were many standout performers on the day, and these students have been rewarded with selection in the school team for the SPSSA swimming carnival to be held at the aquatic centre on October 31st.

The house points were extremely close after the grade 3/4 carnival with Banksia taking an early lead on 418, Wattle 378 and Blue Gum 309. It took a huge effort in the grade 5/6 carnival for the final results. In the end the winning house for 2012 was Wattle on 704 points, second was Blue Gum on 653 points and third Banksia on 631 points. Well done everyone on another fantastic swimming carnival and best of luck to our school team later this month J
