JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: School Sports Assistant (Competitive Sport)– Volunteer Placement Opportunity

Hours:4 or 5 days per week

Duration:Academic Year (i.e. September – July) - Term Time Only

Grade:Voluntary (travel & work related expenses paid). Opportunity for paid evening / school holiday sports coaching work according to experience.

Base/Location :South Wigston High School, but with travel across South Leicestershire as required.

Responsible To:School Sports Development Managers

Job Purpose:

Supporting the delivery of PE & School Sport opportunities in South Leicestershire schools in line with

the aims and objectives of the Learning South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership.

  • To support the planning and delivery of the following work areas:
  • School Games & other competition programmes in South Leicestershire
  • Sports Leadership
  • Active travel and Daily Mile programmes
  • PE & School Sport Professional Development Programme
  • Monitoring & Evaluation of programmes
  • General administration & communication
  • To represent the aims & objectives of LSLSSP at all times and act in a professional manner

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-SCHOOL SPORTS ASSISTANT: HEALTH & WELL-BEING

  1. Supporting with the delivery of targeted physical activity programmes in schools e.g. Girls Active Lifestyles & interventions for less active boys, Big Moves fundamental movement project, ENERGISE health & well-being Clubs.
  1. Support for the co-ordination & delivery of activities for SEND pupils e.g. inclusive sports festivals and tournaments.
  1. Supporting with the development and delivery of Active Travel and Daily Mile initiatives and campaigns including promotion and engagement of schools
  1. Supporting with the planning and co-ordination of the Team Leicestershire School Sport Competition Programme in South Leicestershire, including support with Monitoring and Evaluation, website and administration.
  1. Attend school sport events & competitions, offering hands-on support, e.g. setting up, registering teams, supporting volunteers / leaders, collecting monitoring and evaluation and clear down events
  1. Supporting with updating and maintaining the School Sports Partnership website e.g. uploading competition results / competition details etc.
  1. Supporting with management and updating of social media accounts on behalf of LSLSSP i.e. Facebook & Twitter
  1. Supporting with the co-ordination and delivery of Sports Leadership opportunities e.g. Sporting Ambassadors & Play Maker Award
  1. Supporting with the co-ordination and delivery of School Sport Professional Development opportunities in the line the with LSLSSP & Future Active programme of activities
  1. Supporting with the monitoring and evaluation of all school sport programmes, including obtaining relevant data and producing reports where appropriate
  1. Produce promotional materials for various initiatives organised by LSLSSP
  1. Undertaking additional generic operational / administrative tasks within school sport programme and communicating information to partners
  1. Attend meetings with and on behalf of LSLSSP, often with other at all times representing the views of the Partnership
  1. Any other tasks appropriate with the nature of the post that may be assigned by the School Sport Development Manager

Experience (paid or voluntary):
In one or more of the following areas:
  • Sport
  • Physical Activity

  • Community Development
Able to demonstrate a commitment to the industry
Able to demonstrate where they have managed a small project in either a community or education setting
Experience of sports coaching or sports leadership delivering sport or physical activity with children or young people / 

Sound working knowledge of Microsoft office i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Is able to provide reports and is able to Monitor and Evaluate a variety of initiatives and projects
Has excellent organisational, planning and presentation skills
Has good interpersonal skills, with the capability to communicate effectively with professional staff and volunteers
Familiar with and able to use a range of social media platforms
Understands approaches to working with less active young people and is sensitive to barriers and issues targeted young people may face / 
