I. Welcome and Introduction
Thank you for coming to the meeting this week!
II. Updates
- Financial Update
- Title I - Intervention - $27,886
- Title II - PD - $2800
- Title III - English Learners -$19, 593
- Survey sent out to teachers per last meeting’s discussion.
- Teachers identified technology and curriculum as the greatest need for the classroom and for the school.
- Curriculum will be a resource for teachers and alleviate the very heavy planning demand that is currently there.
- For supporting our English Learners, teachers felt that additional personnel would be the most useful resource.
- Question - Ms. Amaro-Anderson: Has Vista every thought about a community/volunteer group to invite people to come in and read with children?
- Answered: Hasn’t been suggested so far, but is a very promising idea.
- Time could be in six week chunks - twice a week for certain times.
- Reading could be done in Spanish and/or English
- Family members and community members could be invited to come and read with students.
- TB test required, possible Livescan.
- Would count as volunteer time.
- Teachers would prefer to be able to select their own high quality PD and have it paid for than have people come here or us choose a PD for them.
- Security Gate: Gate researched and found not to be cost effective with the open nature of our campus.
- Question: Is there a way to add in some sort of buzzer system to allow people in?
- It’s not cost effective with the open nature of our campus.
- We will continue measures to keep our campus as closed as possible: gates close during school hours, visitor passes, etc.
- Question: Can we get a hallway light for the hall by the office? It gets so late.
- We can definitely look into that!
- Expansion Discussion
- Primary reason: We ultimately want a state of the art facility for our kids. We won’t ever be able to do that without expanding. The only way we can expand is to borrow space from another school.
- We will have an office there, there will always be an administrator on site at Stoner, there will be a definite divide between Vista and Stoner students. We want to keep a peaceful relationship between Stoner and Vista.
- This is a very positive move for the Vista family. We have to go through this process to grow and make a permanent home.
- Question: Wasn’t another charter school there?
- Citizens of the World was there. They did not serve the same community and came with a lot of traffic and divide issues.
- We want parents to know all of the benefits of the move.
- View Park has gone through this for years and is not getting their own building.
- We get to use some of the facilities at Stoner and will now have open space at our school
- Our open space can be used for: Art room, computer lab, resource room, room for one more section of 6th graders.
- Question: Does Vista have a site yet?
- Answer: No, but there are some sites being considered.
- Question: Will Vista stay in LAUSD?
- Answer: Yes! We MUST stay in LAUSD. We will also stay very very local.
- Stoner overall may not be very happy about this move.
- We want to keep very amicable relationships with all of Stoner, their staff, and their families
- We’re open to having community events between both schools.
- We need to clear up misconceptions that Stoner families may have.
- Probable questions from our parents:
- Why?
- How long is this going to be for?
- Why the little students?
- What will security and safety be like there?
- What systems will be in place over there?
