PRESENTATION OF PROPOSAL FINAL YEAR PROJECT

1.0 INTRODUCTION

As part of the requirement for graduation, all final year students are required to present their research works. The presentation of proposal ( Seminar 1) is scheduled on second last week of Semester I , before examination.

2.0 OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the Seminar 1 are as follows:

·  To ensure the quality of research especially in terms of the research components.

·  To ensure the research is going towards right direction.

·  To assist students in anywhere possible, in case the research has diverted from its original objectives.

·  To gauge the progress of research and associated problems in undertaking the research works.

3.0 EXPECTED PRESENTATION

Students are expected to highlight and elaborate in the given time about his overall research programmes. Presentation should be as concise as possible and try to highlight important points as highlighted below. The importance of each section is highlighted with the suggested time of presentation.

3.1 About the thesis/research (maximum 1 minute):

·  The title of thesis and research should be stated concisely and clearly. Please highlight if there is any change to the title from the approved one.

·  Name of supervisor and co-supervisor (s).

3.2 Introduction and literature review (maximum 2 minutes)

·  Be brief on the introduction.

·  To further highlight the problem statement

·  Literature review should be as concise as possible.

·  Please review only about your research work.

·  Please be critical in the review (tabulated form if possible).

·  Please refer to any publication in journal on how the review is done.

3.3 Problem statement (maximum 2 minutes):

·  The most important section.

·  State why you need to do the research.

·  Why is your research so important?

·  Relation with other research works.

·  Expected contribution?

3.4 Objectives (maximum 1 minute):

·  The objectives must be stated clearly.

·  Quantitative objectives are expected.

·  Please try not to have too many objectives. There is no guideline on this but generally, 2-3 objectives are sufficient for B.Sc. level.

3.5 Scope of work (maximum 1 minute):

·  Please highlight on the scope of research and limitations (if any).

3.6 Methodology (maximum 3 minutes):

·  Highlight how you undertake your research towards achieving your objectives.

·  Should be very clear and elaborate step by step.

·  Should answer the keywords ‘how’, ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘who’, ‘which’, etc.

·  Timeframe and progress of research should also be highlighted.

3.7 Results and Discussion (remaining time):

·  Highlight what have you achieved.

·  Highlight your findings so far and expected findings.

·  Brief analysis.

3.8 Conclusion (remaining time):

·  Should answer all the objectives.

·  Quantitative.

4.0  ALLOCATED TIME

·  Students are allocated 10 minutes to present their research works. This is followed by 5 minutes Q & A.

·  Please adhere to the time given.
