  • This form is used to consider applications for Birkbeck Postgraduate Research Scholarshipsand School of Arts Research Studentships awarded by the Schools of Arts.
  • Applicants for funding should also ensure that they have completed a programme application form; the admissions process is separate to the process for the awarding of funding.
  • Funding may be awarded by the College on the recommendation of a School’s Graduate Committee to a candidate with an outstanding academic record who shows high research potential.
  • The terms and conditions of funding differ depending on the nature of the award; further guidance will be made available to successful nominees once applications have been considered.
  • Awards may be made for full-time or part-time study (pro-rata) and to Home, EU or International students.
  • Please note that the fee-waiver is capped at the the Home/EU full-time fee rate for both Home/Eu and International applications.
  • Candidates will normally possess at least an upper second class honours degree or equivalent, and a Masters Degree or equivalent.
  • Award holders are expected to complete their research degree normally within four years in the case of a full-time student, and within seven years in the case of a part-time student.
  • Candidates must apply on the form provided. Applications should be submitted directly to the School as advised above.
  • The School, the supervisor and the student should be fully aware of their responsibilities under Birkbeck’s Code of Practice for Postgraduate Training and Supervision
