Dear Parents / Guardians and Students.

The French language acquisition coursedevelops the language skills of learners in listening, speaking reading and writing. Students will also be exposed to a variety ofethnic and cultural backgrounds, as they expand their world view and develop a better appreciation of cultures. In addition to this, student will be able to access the textbook online and useelectronic devices during instruction upon the teacher’s request.Students are advised to take this class for two years in order to earn credits.

Students will be responsible for keeping an orderly binder, notebook, journal, containing work for French lessons as well as a folder of their work. All work must have the proper presentation and heading format.

In addition to the thematic units outlined below, students will complete Grammar, Vocabulary, Conversational and Cultural activities to enhance their learning.

1st Quarter: Unit 1 – 2: L’île – de - France

2nd Quarter: Unit 3 – 4: La province de Québec

3rd Quarter: Unit 5 – 6: L’Ouest de la France

4th Quarter: Unit 7 – 10: Le Sénégal et Le Midi

All students are expected to follow Student Code of Conduct, as well as class rules. Inappropriate behavior hampers learning. Students’ your grade will be affected by their behavior.

The Grading Policy reflects the World Languages department at BUSD grading and reporting policy. Student grade reflect achievement of French objectives for each marking period. There will be many types of assignments that assess mastery of objectives, grades will be based on a point system and at the end of each academic unit there will be a summative assessment. Students and parents can access grades bi-weekly at the BUSD –Aeries browser.

GRADING FACTORS AND WEIGHTS

ASSESSMENT / TESTS: Formative and summative assessment maybe online, written, oral and performance based including: systematic unit assessments, tests, quizzes, portfolios, research, projects and oral presentations. / 50%
CLASS WORK / PARTICIPATION: Class work shall include All work begun and /or completed in class. Class work may include: warm-ups, discussions, group/cooperative activities, vocabulary, grammar and student journals and other regularly assigned learning tasks targeted to enhance students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. / 25%
HOMEWORK / PROJECTS: Homework completed outside of the class setting shall include structured opportunities for students to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing, student journals and other tasks assigned. / 25%
Letter Grades: A – 90-100%. B – 80-89%. C – 70-79%. D – 60 – 69%. F – 0-59%
