Meeting Notes

October 17, 2017

Members present: Shane Goodwin, Cicely Brown, Therese Green-Thomas, Mona Letigio, Holly Stuart, Jennise Knight, Gwen Lindsey, Rebecca Shackleford, Kelly Scott

Meeting began with introductions of everyone.

Mr. Goodwin gave School report about first nine weeks. Our new IB Coordinator , Rebecca Shackleford, back from IB training , began as instructional coach and continued our IB ATL’s (approach to learn) Mondays. 8th grade Students talked about community projects ideas and categories. At the IB training, attendees learned about IB/Service learning and how it can be accomplished by the teachers and students in the school. Sullivan will begin “Falcons soaring to service” as school wide service learning initiative.

Mr. Patrick Wise is a new seventh-grade teacher on-campus replacing Mrs. Shackleford.

Mr. Kevin Davis has resigned as of December 31 as assistant principal. Sullivan was assigned a new safety resource officer. Officer Mark Shurig is fitting in nicely with students and staff.

The New athletic field is it almost finished. Inside renovations are still coming along. Literacy and math teacher evaluations are being held.

Next item on Agenda was to look at the school improvement plan. Each year plan includes a one your goal and a five your goal. District holds schools accountable for the one year goal and looks for progress on the five year. The district must approve the three goals and action plan. See attached summary of math, reading and behavior goals. The Action plan for each will be in SIC Canvas acct. With regards to behavior and addressing high number of repeat referral students, PBIS (positive behavior intervention strategy) is being used.

Next, Kelly Scott reported that election was held. No new parent members nominated or Elected. Parent Becky Adams informed the Chair of her resignation from council. Another teacher is to be elected to replace Ms Valerie Sims who also resigned.

Mr Goodwin discussed desire to create and distribute Enews to parents for improving parent communication. He is looking into economical and feasible ways to do this. He is going to start by distributing an email through the district’s Blackboard App. This potentially distributes to 1,345 e-mail addresses.
