School Dinner Menus

You will find these on our website as well as being available from the schoool office.

British Science Week

We will be celebrating BSW from 13th – 17th March. The theme this year is all about Changes and we will be linking the three investigations we do during the week to our topic themes.

We are delighted to find out that we have been selected to receive funding from the British Science Association to use during BSW. We will be using the money to buy resources for some exciting STEM projects that the teachers have planned.

Our celebration assembly on 17th March will highlight the great activities the children have been doing during the week. Science Stars of the week will be announced along with the winners of our Science Selfie competition – more details to follow! It’s set to be another fantastic week!

Terrific Science!

Upper Key Stage 2 have taken part in their first Terrific Scientific experiment. They were asked to find out how many taste buds they have to indicate whether they are a non-taster, taster or supertaster. The results from the classes have been sent to the BBC and we are hoping to get a mention on the BBC Live Lesson on 31st January. You can watch the lesson too by following the link on the BBC website.

Attendance

Thank you for your continued effort to help us continue to recognise the importance of good attendance and the effect it has on children’s learning.

A couple of reminders:

  • Please phone in before 9.30am to let us know why your child is not at school. If we don’t hear from you, we will phone you. It becomes a safeguarding issue if we don’t know where a child is. On occasions, if we deem necessary, we may also make home visits.
  • As per policy we donot authorise term time holidays and if these exceed 5 days, a fixed penalty notice (fine) may be served by the local authority.
  • Children being absent because their sibling is ill, visiting relatives, broken down cars, birthdays etc are not reasons for children not attending school. These will be recorded as unauthorised absences. Should the unauthorised absence reach the equivalent of 5 days in any 6 week rolling period then the school will request that the Local Authority issues the Fixed Penalty Notice.

Thank you to all those parents who continue to support us with ensuring the children are at school as often as possible. If you wish to discuss attendance issues further, then please contact Rob Jones (Attendance Officer) who is happy to work alongside families.

World Book Day

This is on Thursday 2nd March and Miss Tyers will be sending out details very shortly.

Curriculum

Wednesday the 8th of February is Year 5/6 topic finale day. The children have been actively aiming to be the next ‘Young Apprentice’, using their entrepreneurial skills to generate, develop and create ideas for improving our local community. We will be giving the children the chance to share their research and their projects on this day – with the potential of a surprise special guest (all being well!)

We are looking forward to the children sharing their learning experiences and outcomes.

NSPCC Number Day

On Friday 3rd February we are celebrating Number Day and helping to raise money for the NSPCC. Pupils and teachers alike will be going head to head in our fun and engaging maths activities including ‘Who Wants to be a Mathionaire?”, “Blockbuster”, “Fractions Frenzy” and “Tricksy Maths”. We are also going to Dress Up For Digits and children can come to school dressed in anything with a number on it.

OFSTED

We have seen the draft report from OFSTED. We are hoping that the final version will be with us in the next few days.

Yr 6 SATs Booster Sessions

Just a reminder that Mr Ward and Miss Sladen are doing booster sessions for the Year 6 children after half term. These will be before school on a Tuesday and Thursday at 8.15am and Thursday lunchtime.
