Reporting to:Deputy Head of Security

Purpose of the Role:

To be responsible for all matters relating to the safety and security of University staff, students, visitors, grounds and property. To undertake total supervision of the Security Section in the absence of the Head and Deputy Head of Security. To provide excellent customer service to ensure customers, especially students, enjoy a positive experience at the University.

Main Responsibilities

1. / To be responsible for and supervise senior security officers, security patrol officers, gatehouse security officers and control room staff. Brief officers and allocate resources appropriate to locations, ensuring a 24/7 security cover. Attend incidents and be The University representative at serious or major incidents until such time as Senior University Staff attend. To keep the relevant personnel updated of incidents, requirements for their attendance where necessary, and outcomes. Monitor that adequate security checks are carried out as directed and discrepancies dealt with, under disciplinary procedures if necessary. To actively patrol when required. Prepare and submit all relevant documentation (i.e. accurate incident reports, duty sheets, etc.) / 70%
2. / To assist in the preparation of operational orders for events (i.e. Graduation, open days and VIP visits) and supervise events. To ensure all traffic control and parking procedures and policies are upheld. To deliver the Security service required meeting the expectations of the organisers and those attending such events / 5%
3. / To ensure all control room, CCTV and out-of-hours procedures are kept current and adhered to. To ensure that all legislation and policy is complied with (i.e. CCTV Code of Practice, Data Protection) / 5%
4. / To take an active role in all elements of staff resource management, and interview staff and students in relation to disciplinary matters. To interview staff with regard to other HR procedures (i.e. absence monitoring, staff training) / 5%
5. / To review, amend, implement and monitor crime prevention and reduction measures, manage electronic key systems and maintain an awareness of developments within the Security section. To ensure that Senior Security Officers and Security Officers working under their supervision are also updated and that detailed briefings are provided, and officers understand any operational orders that have been issued by Security Management / 5%
6. / Undertake control room duties, receiving customer enquiries in person or by telephone, issue and receive keys, receive lost property. To ensure that all officers are aware of current procedures and are able to deliver the correct level of service / 5%
7. / To ensure adherence to Health & Safety Regulations, and comply with University, departmental and external, standards, policies, procedures and codes of practice. To undertake first aid training and administer first aid when appropriate / 2%
8. / Undertaking and utilising training and development to enhance working skills and knowledge of self and team, to improve continuously service delivery / 2%
9. / Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed / 1%
