School Improvement Plan -Increase Student Engagement

Mrs. Biddings reviewed the 2016-2017 School Improvement Plan. She explained that parents, staff members, and community members are invited to give input for the development for the following school year. Mr. Tunnage asked a question on the specific goals to increase reading proficieny. Mrs. Smith explained that we are opened to any suggestions on amending the goals. The members discussed that since the DRA and BAS are being adminstered, we should possibly include a primary reading goal for studesn to increace by reading levels from August 2017 through May 2018. Mrs. Biddings opened the floor for additional recommendations. No one provided additional comments. The recommendations would be presented to adminstration and the staff for further discussion. Mrs. Biddings stated that everyone should feel free to contribute any additional ideas at the next SAC meeting.

The Committee conducted a final review of the School Improvement Plan before voting on changes. The School Improvement Plan received a favorable vote from the Committee.

Parent Involvement Plan

The SAC Committee discussed new activities for parent involvement for 2017-2018 school year. The committee voted to continue with the Literacy Night, Math Night and Science Night. We will use parent involvment funds to purchase: refreshements, supplies for hands-on materials, and door prizes. Mrs. Tierney asked if we could do more to help parents understand FL standands and have acess to grades and attendance records. For the 2017-2018 school year we discussed adding a FL Testing Standards Night and Vitural Counselor Training night to teach parents to access student information at home.

Parent Survey Report

The Annual Title 1 Parent Engagement Surveys were adminstered in March 6th- March 31st. The parents had four opportunities to provide feedback: email through a survey money link, a link on the school’s website, laptop stations at the front of the school, and paper based surveys. The results from the survey shows favorable that North Fork provides information to parents concerning student achievement. Several responses mentioned not receiving information. The members discussed that since parents have a concern about not receiving information, the school should possibly send home flyers along with parent link calls to parents. Mrs. Biddings opened the floor for additional recommendations. No one provided additional comments. The recommendations would be presented to adminstration and the staff for further discussion. Mrs. Biddings stated that everyone should feel free to contribute any additional ideas at the next SAC meeting.

School/ Parent Compact

Mrs. Smith shared the 2016-2017 School/Parent compact flyer. Based on today’s discussion and administrators approval, the compact flyer will have the updated initiatives on the 2017-2018 School-Parent Compact flyer. The members agreed with no additional changes to the compact.
