AMVETS Americanism Contest / March 1 / 2014/2015 THEME- WHAT DOES FREEDOM LOOK LIKE?
All students must address the assigned theme in their essays. Student essays must be typed or written in ink and should be 500 words or less.
Blumenthal Performing Arts scholarships / Due dates vary / Blumenthal Performing Arts is offering graduating seniors the opportunity to apply for two performing arts scholarships. The Mary Doctor Performing Arts Scholarship is a $10,000 annually renewable scholarship that will be awarded to two students who demonstrate above-average ability and who will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a field directly related to the performing arts. The Gordon Hay Scholarship is a one-time $5,000 scholarship that will be awarded to one student for non-tuition expenses that will deepen the student’s experience in their performing arts related field of study.

Charlotte Metro Area Relocation Council Scholarship / February 23 / Scholarship program for students who have relocated to the Charlotte area sometime between grades 9-12. Applicants must have relocated more than 50 miles and changed schools due to their family’s relocation and currently have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha XI Chapter Scholarship / March 13 / The Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Xi Chapter Scholarship is intended for seniors interested in the field of teaching/education. Applicants must submit a completed application, two letters of recommendation, and a high school transcript.
Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship / February 5 / Applicants must: complete an application, submit a separate list of extracurricular activities, honors, community or church work, and work experience, submit a photograph, an official transcript, a letter of recommendation from the student’s minister, employer, or adult friend, a letter of recommendation from the student’s guidance counselor or teacher, and three copies of an original essay of 500- 700 words on the following topic:
Our country’s founders created three separate branches of government and constitutional checks and balances in order to distribute power and prevent its accumulation. Are these separations of power within the federal government more difficult to maintain today than in the past? Please cite three outside courses to support your view. (Suggested sources might include the internet, historic documents, personal interviews as well as traditional research materials.)
Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Award / February 8 / Herff Jones gives schools the opportunity to nominate ONE senior based on leadership, academic performance, and community service to compete for both award and scholarship recognition.
If you would like to be considered for nomination, please submit a resume and 500 word (or less) essay indicating why you deserve to be West’s nominee to Mrs. Lehew in Guidance no later than February 4.
Iredell County Extension and Community Association Scholarship / March 1 / The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students in obtaining a degree at an NC college in any field of study, with priority given to Family and Consumer Sciences.
NC Division of Veterans Affairs Scholarship / March 1 / Applicant must: be under the age of 25 at time of application, be a resident of NC, be the natural or adopted child prior to the age of 15 of a QUALIFIED VETERAN, plan to attend a 4 college/university or 2 community/technical college in NC, and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

NC Retail Merchants Association Scholarships / March 2 / North and South Carolina residents that are members ofthe North Carolina Retail Merchants Association or the Carolinas Food Industry Council have the opportunity to apply for the 46education scholarships. To apply for a scholarship, go to:
North Carolina State USBC Association, Inc. Youth Scholarship / March 1 / Eligibility criteria – any senior in a NC high school prior to the age of 22, must be a current member of the NC USBCA and bowling in a certified USBC NC youth league, files a completed application with the Association Manager of the NCS USBC, applicant must have an unimpaired amateur standing in bowling, must have a GPA at the school with expectation of admission to the institution.
People Helping People Scholarship (SECU) / Due to Mrs. Lehew by April 9 / Must be attending a NC conventional public high school, must be a US citizen and resident of NC, must be attending one of the 16 UNC system universities, must have at least a 2.5 GPA, must have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. Student must not be a director, employee, or family member of an employee of SECU or the SECU Foundation.
R Flake Shaw (NC Farm Bureau) College Scholarship / March 1 / Scholarships are awarded to 4 year college bound students who demonstrate the intention to pursue a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally- related field, financial need, satisfactory grades, an evident understanding of the agriculture and/or agribusiness community, and leadership potential.
R Flake Shaw (NC Farm Bureau) Community College Scholarship / March 1 / Scholarships are awarded to community college bound students who demonstrate the intention to pursue a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally- related field, financial need, satisfactory grades, an evident understanding of the agriculture and/or agribusiness community, and leadership potential.
SEANC Scholarship Foundation, Inc. / April 15 / SEANC offers academic scholarships to the dependents of SEANC members. ONLY SEANC members or their dependents are eligible to receive scholarships. Please visit for more information.
SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes / May 15 / Thirty $500 scholarships will be awarded for education expenses at a college or university. Free to enter and eligibility not based on financial need or GPA. Enter once every two weeks, up to 15 times during the sweepstakes period. Two winner randomly chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2014 to May 15, 2015.

The Professional Construction Estimators Association Kenneth N. Houston Memorial Scholarships / April 24 / The Catawba Valley Chapter of PCEA awards scholarship money to deserving high school seniors preparing to enter construction related careers. In choosing recipients, the selection committee considers academic performance, desire to enter construction related fields, financial need, community activities, and letters of recommendation. Applicants are urged to be thorough in providing information that documents academic performance (transcript), financial need, and service to the community. Applicants should include a letter written to the selection committee that makes clear the applicant’s plans for the future, reasons for pursuing a construction related career, and that may also relate some of the applicant’s personal philosophy.
Statesville Branch NAACP Scholarship / April 30 / Recipient must be a current NAACP member in good standing at least six (6) months prior to filing scholarship application. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Recipient must be planning to enroll as a full time student at an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university. The following materials must be submitted by hand or mailed to Mrs. Marlene B Scott: completed application, typed 150- 250 word essay, official transcript and standardized test scores, evidence of acceptance by a college, non- returnable photograph, and two letters of recommendation.

Triangle Pest Control Scholarship / March 2 / Triangle Pest Control has established technology as one of its primary goals. In order to fulfill this goal, Triangle Pest Control has created a merit based scholarship fund for individuals seeking education in environmental studies. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an individual who has displayed academic excellence, in addition to a passionate pursuit of furthered environmental education at an accredited college or university in North Carolina.
