Scholarships – Look at your colleges!!!

If you need money to help pay for college, then don’t forget to look at the obvious. That’s right, look at the Financial Aid link on the college of your choice. Every college/university has their scholarships listed with eligibility requirements and how to apply.

KFC Colonel’s Scholarship

KFC Colonel’s Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel’s Scholarships Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks room and board. Students must a minimum grade point average of 2.75 and demonstration financial need. The program is accepting online applications December 1, 2011 – February 8, 2012 at www.kfcscholars.org

Susan G. Komen Scholarship

The Susan G. Komen Foundation awards $10,000 per year (for up to four years) to a student to attend a state university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. Recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, financial need and demonstrated leadership potential. Applicants must have lost a parent/guardian to breast cancer; be a high school senior, have a GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale; be a U.S. citizen; never subject to any disciplinary action to any educational or law enforcement agency; and complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service per semester. NCSU Education Scholarship Program

The College of Education at North Carolina State University offers a limited number of scholarships to incoming students based on merit and/or need. Students are encouraged to apply for admission to NCSU early since they must be accepted to be invited to apply for the scholarship. Competitive students who have been admitted to the College of Education by January 30, 2012, will be invited to apply for a scholarship. Duke-UNC Chapel Hill Robertson Scholars Program

This program selects 18 incoming students from Duke and 18 from Chapel Hill as prestigious Robertson Scholars who will receive 4-year scholarships valued at up to $160,000. Duke Scholars receive full tuition, while UNC Scholars receive full tuition and living expense. All receive a laptop computer, access to special Scholars courses and programs, and support for 3 summers service, travel and research. They also switch campuses for the second semester of their sophomore year. Selected students are truly exceptional, possessing superior academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, strong leadership potential, strong moral character and a commitment to helping others. All students applying to the two universities are considered for the program, but interested students may submit a Supplemental Materials packet outlining their passions, activities, and accomplishments, and including a service-related letter of recommendation, as well as an essay on their leadership potential. Information is available on-line at http://www.robertsonscholars.org. Priority deadline for submitting these materials is December 1.

Washington and Lee University Scholarship

The Earl T. Jones Honor Scholarship is for students in Virginia and North Carolina. The scholarship award ranges from $2,000 to full tuition, room and board. The selection process is highly competitive and requires a supplementary Johnson Scholarship application that students should submit by December 1. National Co-op Scholarship Program

WACE announces its Tenth Annual National Co-op Scholarship Program. As the largest independently sponsored merit co-op scholarship program in the United States, WACE will award 155 merit co-op scholarships of $6,000 each. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2012. Qualified Children of North Carolina Veterans

Students must have a Veteran parent(s) who were residents of North Carolina when they entered military service. You may be eligible for a scholarship from the state of North Carolina to attend an approved in-state university, community college or technical institute. Please visit www.doa.nc.gov/vets/locations to find your local Division of Veteran Affairs Service Office. The deadline is March 1, 2012.

Dr. Pepper Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway Promotion and Contest

Submit a one-minute video explaining how you would make a positive difference in your community, the world or your own life if you won free tuition from Dr. Pepper. Over 60 students will receive over $2,500 in tuition assistance from Dr. Pepper. Go to http://www.drpepper.com/promotions/. You must upload video by 12/31/2011 for the $2,500 tuition promotion.

North Carolina State USBC Association Inc. Youth Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by the North Carolina State United States Bowling Congress Association, Inc. (NCS USBCA) – a non-profit organization. The scholarship is worth $1,500. The student must be a current member of the NCS USBCA and bowling in a certified USBC North Carolina youth league. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2012. East Tennessee State University – Honors Program

Twenty-two freshmen are selected as University Honors Scholars each year. A special application is required and due on January 31, 2012 for admission for fall 2012. To request an application, please go www.etsu.edu/honors/university/application.asp

Johnson & Wales University FFA Scholarships

As a member of a national student organization you are eligible for a National Student Organizations (NSO) Scholarship. By completing the admission application and indicating your membership, not only will you be applying for admission to Johnson & Wales University, you will also be applying for our NSO Scholarship program and all its benefits. Kenneth N. Houston Memorial Scholarships

The Catawba Valley Chapter of Professional Construction Estimators of American (PCEA) will award scholarships to deserving high school seniors preparing to enter construction related careers. The deadline is April 27, 2012. Applications are available in Guidance.

1st Annual HBCU College Fair

The 1st Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities College Fair will be Tuesday, November 15 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Mooresville High School (Magnolia Campus).

AXA Achievements Scholarship

The AXA Achievement Foundation in association with U.S. News and World Report provides $670,000 in annual scholarships to young people throughout the nation. Scholarships are awarded to young people

-  Ability to succeed in college

B. Davis Scholarship

This scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors. To apply, you will need to write an essay of less than 1000 words on “How your education has contributed to who you are today or how it will affect who you will become. The deadline is May 28, 2012. Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2012 competition. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Applications must advance through local, district and state competitions to reach national judging. The deadline to apply is December 2, 2011. Go to http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars.mvs.cfm

Michael A. Demayo Scholarship

The law offices of Michael A. Demayo offers scholarships to students who complete the application process and submit the best presentation on the prevention of underage drinking and driving. The deadline to apply is Monday, February 27, 2012. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or online at www.DeMayoLaw.com – click on the Community Service tab.

JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest

This contest is an opportunity for you to

write an essay less than 1,000 words that demonstrates political courage such as that described by

Appalachian State University Scholarships

Scholarship applications for ASU will be incorporated into the admission application. Students must complete the application for admission and scholarships and submit other material (transcript and test scores) by the December 1 deadline date. You will have to complete the scholarship portion of the CFNC.org application prior to submitting the application. Students will not be able to go back later and apply separately for scholarships.

SAE International 2011 Engineering Scholarships

Over 60 corporate sponsorships to qualified students interested in the study of engineering

Create A Greeting Card Scholarship Contest

That’s right…create a greeting card. Students must submit a unique photo, piece of artwork or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card. NCHSAA Scholarships

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association offers several scholarships. The Charlie Adams Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a senior female participating on a varsity cross-country team and to a senior male participating on a varsity wrestling team. Gainey Student Award is awarded to one senior male student athlete participating on a varsity baseball team. The Clary Student Medal Award is awarded to one male and one female athlete. The deadline to apply is March 12, 2012. You can apply at www.nchsaa.org

SunTrust Off to College Scholarship

High school seniors can enter for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship for their education expenses at a college, university or trade (career) school. Thomas Wolfe Scholarship – UNC

The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship is a full undergraduate scholarship for student writers. Applications will be accepted from September 1 through November 1. Preliminary screening will be completed by late January 2012 with final screening concluding in early March 2012. Three outstanding candidates will be brought to the UNC-Chapel Hill campus for interviews in early April 2012. West Iredell Ruritan Club Scholarship – NOW AVAILABLE!!!

The West Iredell Ruritan Club Scholarship is now available in the Guidance Office. All completed applications must be turned into Guidance by 3:15 p.m. on February 1, 2012.

Gates Millennium Scholars

The Gates Millennium Scholars program is a renewable, need-based, merit scholarship and provides financial support throughout the Scholar’s undergraduate career. The scholarship is aimed at African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students. The minimum grade point average is a 3.3 unweighted. High School Innovator of the Year and Lead With Your Heart Scholarships

These scholarships are worth $5,000 each. The scholarships will recognize students who have put significant work into their passions and have made strides in advancing the greater good. Students should apply for the scholarships at www.cappex.com/scholarships.

Catawba College Teaching Scholarship

Catawba College in Salisbury offers the West Teaching Scholarship. The scholarship is for North Carolina residents pursing a degree in Education. It is a valued up to $15,000. Walmart Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation

Al Neuharth Free Spirit Scholarships and Journalism Program
