Shepperd Trailblazer Award

This is a leadership award recognizing young Texans. The nominee must be a Texas High School Junior or Senior, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of the award presentation. Candidates must be endorsed by an educator and/or administrator with personal knowledge of the nominee’s community activities.

VFW Patriotic Audio Essay Competition

The Voice of Democracy is open to students in grades 9-12. Students must record an original 3-5 minutes essay on a standard cassette tape or CD. This year’s theme is “Why I’m Optimistic About our Nation’s Future”. All entries competing at the Post level must be in the hands of that VFW Post by midnight, November 1, 2013.

TILF Scholarship Opportunities

Students must complete the following criteria:

Competed at the UIL Academic State Meet any year of their high school career(CX debaters must have advanced to the second day of competition) or must be a TSSEC Outstanding Soloist or must be a state finalist in the Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition of the Latino History Essay Competition.

Must plan to attend an accredited college or university in the state of Texas.

Must enroll full-time in college and maintain a 2.5 college GPA (some scholarships

Require higher GPAs)

Must have taken either the SAT or the ACT.

Must be graduating from high school during the current year.

How to apply:

Complete the online application between March 3 and May 30, 2014, including the submission of : High School Transcript, SAT/ACT scores, letter of recommendation from principal, Assistant Principal, UIL Coach, or counselor, and a copy of the first two pages of parent/guardian’s most recent IRS 1040 form

The Hunt Leadership Scholarship

Provides full SMU tuition and fees. The award also underwrites tuition and transportation to one of SMU’s study abroad programs. Eligibility: Extraordinary leadership in high school; Rank in the top 25 percent of graduating class. Composite SAT of 1270 on math and critical reading or ACT 28; Completion of strong college prep curriculum. How to apply: Submit an application for admission to SMU, submit an online application, including essay, by January 15 of the student’s senior year, letter of recommendation focusing on your leadership abilities an potential from someone who has worked directly with the student in a leadership capacity.

2014 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award

Graduating high school seniors who operate their own small business are eligible to receive the award. Visit www. NFIB.com/YEA for more information and to apply online between October 1 and December 18, 2013.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship

An achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and their commitment to make a significant impact on their schools and community.

Applicants must be:

Current high school seniors; U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Refugees; Asylees; Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application; planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution; Carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.

Terry Foundation Scholarships

TWU will offer this scholarship to freshman admitted to TWU for fall 2014

Students should demonstrate the following:

A record of leadership in school and/or community; Strong academic abilities, as evidenced by grades an SAT and/or ACT scores; Financial need; Graduation form a Texas high school or homeschool program; must plan to live on-campus (TWU); Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.; Be unmarried and not have children.

The award amount is determined annually base on the cost of attendance at TWU, including tuition, fees, books, on-campus housing, meal plan and personal expenses. The specific amount of the award will vary for each scholar.

Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship

Eligibility:

Applicant must be a senior in an accredited public or private high school in Dallas County (There are other counties listed.); minimum score of 1800 in the SAT (math and verbal combined) or a minimum score of 27 on the ACT; must participate in high school varsity sports (UIL, SPC, and TAPPS varsity sport eligible); must possess qualities of leadership. Please see application procedures for details. All applications must be postmarked or received by Monday, December 2nd, 2013.

Transportation YOU High School Scholarship

The scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. The minimum criteria for selection are as follows:

Open to high school senior girls; GPA of 3.0 or higher; Currently enrolled in a high school in Texas and Oklahoma studying math, science and technology;Considering a career in a transportation-related field.

Applications must be post marked no later than Friday, October 25, 2013.

Global Lift Equipment Scholarship

Award: $500

To be considered eligible you must:

Be currently attending or planning on attending a post-secondary institution in Canada or in the US in September of 2014; Submit a short story. Detailed instructions can be found on the application page. Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Horatio Alger Scholarship

Award:$21,000

To be eligible to apply applicant must:

Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States, progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2014 with plans to enter college in the United States no later that the fall following graduation.

Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States(students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)

The Gates Millennium Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

3.3.on a 4.0 scale; African American, American Indian-Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American; U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident of Foreign National; High School Senior, GED recipient, or high school graduate entering an accredited college for the first time as a full-time, degree seeking, first-year student; Must meet Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

2014 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Eligibility:

Contest is open to high school students grades nine to twelve. Past winners and finalists are not eligible to participate.

Essay submissions will be accepted starting on September 1, 2013. The contest deadline is Monday, January 6, 2014.

Essays cannot be more than a 1,000 words. Essays must describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official that occurred during or after 1956, the publication date of Profiles in Courage.

Odenza Marketing Group Volunteer Scholarship

Award: $500

To be eligible for this award the student must:

Be between the ages of 16 and 22 on December 30th, 2013; must possess a GPA or 2.5 or higher in his/her last academic year; must have contributed at least 50 hours of volunteer service within his/her community over the last 12 months.

Texas Engineering Foundation Scholarship Application for Graduating Texas High School Seniors

Eligibility:

United States Citizen; high school senior with a 3.0 or higher GPA; have scored at least 600 in math, a 550 in critical reading and a 500 in writing on the SAT, or a 29 in math and a 25 in English on the ACT; Enroll in an ABET accredited engineering program; provide a completed scholarship application with all required attachments postmarked or delivered by January 10, 2014.

Seton Hall University Public Tuition Rate

The university is offering a $22,500 tuition reduction to students who qualify.

Students must:

Have a minimum of a 27 ACT composite score or combined 1200 SAT (CR&M) with not less than 550 on either section;

Be in the top 10 percent of their high school class; and

Apply by December 15.

Freedom Alliance Scholarship

Scholarship for dependent sons or daughters of a US Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Guardsman, or Marine who has:

Become permanently disabled as a result of an operational mission or training accident;

Been killed in action; or

Been classified as a Prisoner of War(POW) or Missing in Action(MIA)
