The Crystal Lake Jaycees are a group dedicated to helping the community. We run over 100 events a year. Most of our projects are "community service". Jaycees, more formally known as "Junior Chamber of Commerce," make a real difference in the community to help save parkland, build playgrounds, collect food, and give the greatest gifts for those in need. Jaycees are optimistic people with seemingly endless enthusiasm, who view community service as a privilege.

The Burleson Family Scholarship is named in honor of Thomas Burleson and his family. In 1999, Thomas Burleson and his family were struck by a drunk driver after coming home from Six Flags. Thomas' wife Eva, 34, and their three children Daniel, 14, Tiffany, 11, and Dallis, 7, all of Crystal Lake, were killed in the car accident. One (1) scholarship valued at $1,000 is available in 2011.

Requirements:

  • District 155 student in Crystal Lake
  • Student must plan on attending a two-year or four-year college or university
  • Completed application and essay

Applications will be considered based on the following criteria: educational goals, grade point average,community involvement, application content and quality. Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in May 2011.
