The Jean Genovese Memorial Scholarship for Academic Improvement

Sponsored by the Academic Booster Club

This is a $1,000 one year grant.

Jean Genovese was a deeply dedicated and highly respected member of the Robinson community of volunteers. As President of the Academic Boosters and avid volunteer in sports and other school activities, Jean has left an indelible mark at James W. Robinson Secondary School. The impact of Jean’s efforts is evidenced by the dedication of the sound system on the baseball field to her memory and the establishment of this scholarship recognizing students who have demonstrated significant academic improvement over their high school career.

Guidelines for Scholarship Application

1. The applicant must have completed at least two full years at Robinson.

2. The applicant must have been accepted at an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

3. The applicant must have demonstrated significant academic improvement, as verified on his/her transcript and in the teacher/counselor letter of recommendation.

4. The applicant must demonstrate involvement in school activities and/or community volunteer activities. At a minimum, the applicant must have actively participated in at least one school-sponsored extra-curricular activity during each of two years at Robinson High School.

Applicants must submit the following in an envelope to the Career Center by April 30, 2018 OR submit the application via email by sending materials to

Delivering the application to Robinson’s Career Center:

  • The attached application OR a resume or similar document including name; address; years at Robinson; names of college(s) to which you have been accepted; and a list of your school-sponsored and outside activities including years of participation and leadership positions held.
  • Your transcript and 7th semester grade report, signed by your counselor.
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor.
  • An essay (500-word limit) describing how you have been able to improve your academic performance and what you have learned from your experience.

NOTE: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated on a combination of (1) applicant's grades and coursework; (2) application essay; (3) teacher or counselor recommendation; (4) participation and leadership in school-sponsored extra-curricular activities, and (5) participation and leadership in other volunteer activities.
