Scholarship Details for the Blockson-McIntyre Scholarship Fund

PURPOSE: The Blockson-McIntyre Scholarship Fund awards a scholarship to a selected college-bound high school senior based on demonstrated academic achievement and an expressed interest in making a significant contribution to his/her family outcomes. The Fund will also award a scholarship to a college student (or graduate/doctoral student) with demonstrated academic achievement and an expressed interest in making a significant contribution to his/her family outcomes.

CRITERIA: The students eligible for the scholarships must be a graduating high school senior (or college student/graduate) Blockson/McIntyre family member who will continue their education at a four-year college or university (or community college) or in the case of a college graduate, in a graduate or other further educational program. Students competing for a scholarship must submit an application in accordance with the guidelines and submittal/deadline provided below.

GUIDELINES: Two scholarships will be awarded (one to a selected high school graduating senior and one to a colleges student/graduate) at the Blockson/McIntyre Family Reunion, which is held during the third weekend (Thursday to Saturday) each year. Award winners are strongly encouraged to attend the reunion, but are not required.

Students wishing to compete for the awards should submit a “Letter of Application for a Blockson/McIntyre Scholarship”, which details the applicant’s name, address, e-mail, parents’ name, educational institution to attend, high school (or graduate school) grade point average, and verification of college acceptance and registration (letter from Registrar or a copy of enrollment payment receipt). Applicant must also submit an essay (3 to 5 pages) expressing how their educational achievement will significantly contribute to their family outcomes. Application materials must be submitted as described in the Submittal/Deadline below. Award selections will be made by the Blockson/McIntyre Scholarship Fund Committee; based on the quality of the applications submitted, the Committee could withhold awarding any schlarships.

Each scholarship awarded will be $500 and will be awarded with a check made payable to the award recipient.

SUBMITTAL/DEADLINE: Applications must include a “Letter of Application for a Blockson/McIntyre Scholarship”, detailing the applicant’s name, address, e-mail, parents’ name, educational institution to attend, high school (or graduate school) grade point average, and verification of college acceptance and registration (letter from Registrar or a copy of enrollment payment receipt). Applicant must also submit an essay (3 to 5 pages) expressing how their educational achievement will significantly contribute to their family outcomes. The 3-5 page essay is to be typed, double-spaced, 12 font.

Application materials (Letter of Application and Essay) must be submitted to arrive to the designated point described below no later than June 15, 2016. Any materials not received by June 15, 2016, will not be considered. Applications may be submitted electronically or hard copy.
