a. BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK:
In the recent years Alprazolam derivatives have been studied extensively for their chemical and biological activities. A survey of literature revealed that Alprazolam derivatives possess different types of potential biological activities include Central depressant activity8, Anxiety disorder9, Pannic disorders10, Hypnotic11, Sedative12, Transquilizer9and Schizophrenia13 etc.
A continuous need for new anxiolytic synthetic drug with lesser side effects and potent activity for the treatment of various anxiety disorders, made us to undertake present work. It is known fact that the organic molecules possessing benzodiazepine nucleus are often endowed with useful anxiolytic properties.
The present work is an attempt to,
1. Synthesis of alprazolam derivatives.
2. Study the characteristics of these compounds.

Data will be obtained from the CD ROM, Internet facilities, journals of medicinal chem., Literature and articles from library of Krupanidhi college of pharmacy & Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore.
Data from observations and inferences collected on the basis of experiments to be carried out in the course of research in the laboratories of Krupanidhi college of pharmacy, Bangalore.

1 Method of characterization
Characterization of synthesized compounds will be performed by using modern analytical methods like Melting point, IR spectroscopy, NMR, FTIR, etc.
