SCHA October 13, 2011 Meeting Minutes
Marsha Morrow began the meeting at 7:40pm.
Minutes from the September meeting were accepted, with Rebecca Petty making a motion and
Alan Brolley seconding the motion.
Marsha thanked and complemented Rebecca Petty for publishing the weekly newsletter.
Pete Talkington reported association finances were in good shape. All players are current with dues. He stressed the association needs to begin fundraising to meet the current budget.
Marsha informed the group:
-that players need to contact coaches if they will not be at practice or games (text or call)
-reports cards must be turned in to team managers at the end of this six weeks,
NO PASS/NO PLAY policy went into effect this six weeks.
-she sent out an email regarding concussion and injury protection and encouraged parents to
view the link (
-Dragon Hockey logo t-shirts cans still be ordered, email her if you would like to place an order
-pansy orders will arrive next week
-team photos should be sometime in October
-concussion testing completed
Coach Curtale addressed the group:
-recommended the M11 helmets by Mark Messier for best head protection
-stressed the importance of players attending practice and informing coaches by text or call
if they will not be at a practice or game
-repeated absences from practice will result in benching
-shared fundraising opportunities during the Tornados games: sell chuck-a-pucks for %50 of
money collected
Fundraising discussion:
-Marsha stressed the importance of fundraising, if there are no fundraising events, then each
family will have to pay more to the association
-Casino Night:
- event last year raised approximately $11,000
-need an event chairperson or persons and committee (Robert Mitchell, Allen Brolley
Bret McIntyre have volunteered to help)
-possible venues: Stacy’s community room, Tornados game
-Leslie Curtiss suggested obtaining team sponsors, selling website ads, hosting Alumni game
(Leslie volunteered to check with Keith Andresen on Alumni game possibilities)
-Allan Brolley suggested game banner with sponsor’s logos
Pete Talkington raised awareness and concern over team water bottles and pucks missing. Discussion
on best way to handle the supervision of team items. Who should be in charge of keeping
up with water bottles and pucks?
Leslie offered to chair the banquet this year.
Leslie asked for families to share with her:
- pictures of the current season to be used for promotional and marketing opportunities
(Pete volunteered to email some to her)
-possible sponsorship leads
Travis Neal addressed the group:
-officiating was very tight at Sunday’s JV game, lots of penalties
-JV team playing well together, going to be competitive
-new player from Calgary, Luke Green
-suggested a raffle or drawing fundraiser
Leslie explained to group that SCHA website only allows two email addresses per player. Families will
have to forward emails to other addresses not in the website’s database.
Lori Mitchell will check on possibility of having current trophies added to case at the high school.
