Context

The LiveWell for LIFE project is a flagship EU project which is contributing to the delivery of the WWF Network’s Footprint metagoal. The project is part of WWF-UK’s Corporate Stewardship Team within the Food and Water Unit which aims to reduce the environmental and social impacts of food by working with both corporate organisations and policy makers.

The LiveWell for LIFE project, is being funded by the EC with a total project budget of Euro 2.078 million for three years and commenced on 1st October 2011. WWF UK is one of 3 main partners (including WWF European Policy Office and Friends of Europe) working closely with WWF France, Spain and Sweden and is responsible for the overall management of the project and delivery on specific elements. The Project launches the concept of sustainable diets in Europe by working with three pilot countries (France, Spain and Sweden) and the broader EU community. A key objective is the development of policy recommendations and identification of key changes in the food system to support a transition to sustainable diets. A fundamental part of the project is to engage senior level government officials and policy makers and other key senior stakeholders to leverage their inputs and galvanise their support. This will contribute significantly to the uptake and broadcasting of sustainable diets across the EU whilst influencing EU policy.

The project will work in three European countries and with the EU itself and is a large complex project requiring engagement with key internal and external stakeholder and communications requirements.

What’s the purpose of this role?

Working closely with partners, engage, co-ordinate and manage the Network of European Food Stakeholders by managing the delivery of the stakeholder engagement strategy for the LiveWell for LIFE project. This will include:

Planning and co-ordinating stakeholder engagement across all project activities

Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders including government officials, policy makers and other high level stakeholders from across the food supply chain in the three pilot countries (France, Spain, Sweden) and the broader EU community

Liaise with, and co-ordinate project partners for face to face events and ongoing stakeholder consultation.

Manage the ongoing consultation and engagement with stakeholders through a variety of channels including online forums

Support the Project Manager in developing relationships with senior level government officials, policy makers and other high level stakeholders from across the food supply chain in the three pilot countries (France, Spain and Sweden) and the broader EU community

Build and maintain relationships with project partners to ensure effective stakeholder management

Data Analysis and synthesis. Gather, analyse and synthesise project information from partners for the project manager and for other internal and external stakeholders

Support the Project Manager in ensuring project activities, reporting, budget management and monitoring and evaluation are delivered in accordance with the conditions of the EC LIFE+ contract

What skills, knowledge and experience are needed?

A relevant degree and/or equivalent social process/stakeholder engagement background

Experience in leading on stakeholder communications

An understanding of broad environmental issues and if possible, the potential impacts diet has on society and economy

Excellent problem solving skills and experience

Excellent interpersonal skills – diplomacy and tact are essential

Very strong organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Flexible approach and commitment to working as part of a team

Willing to attend external meetings and events as required, occasionally requiring work

outside usual office hours

Experience of working in the NGO sector

Experience of working on EC funded projects

Minimum criteria for this role:

Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and different social engagement process, including experience of facilitating face to face events and online forums

Experience of working in/with a large, complex organisation, and working in partnership with a number of organisations

Experience of designing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies

Willing and able to travel into Europe as and when required
