SCBC Job Descriptions

Camp Counselor: Camp Counselors form the base of the summer camp staff. Responsibilities will include leading Bible Studies, campfires, recreational activities, and carrying out the summer programming as defined in staff training, as well as care and supervision of up to 12 campers in a cabin group. Counselors will be rotated through the different programs as dictated by camper numbers, individual skills, and program needs. Musical talent, First-Aid/CPR/Lifeguard certifications, and leadership experience preferred but not required. Other duties as assigned. Must have completed at least one year of college, or equivalent.

Salary: $240/week

Arts & Crafts Director: The Arts & Crafts Director is responsible for the art barn and creating a craft curriculum for the summer camping program in collaboration with the Program Director. Responsibilities will include managing the art barn, working with village leaders and cabin groups to set up craft times, keeping assigned areas clean and welcoming, and helping with other camp activities as needed. Other duties as assigned. Artistic experience in some capacity is desired but not a necessity.

Salary: $240/week

Kitchen Assistant: The Kitchen Assistants aid the Food Service Director in the planning, preparation, and serving of food. Since Sugar Creek Bible Camp has an emphasis on over-the-fire outdoor cooking with most of our programs, Kitchen Assistants are also heavily involved with packing out food to our different programs, both on and off site. When not involved with kitchen duties, Kitchen Assistants are to help with other camp activities (worship, games, etc.) and are responsible to the Program Director and APDs during those times. Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $240/week

Lifeguard: The Lifeguard is in charge of the Sugar Creek pool. Responsibilities include orienting campers to pool policies, enforcing those policies, training and directing other staff in lookout duties, and keeping the pool area and pool house clean. Also responsible for monitoring pool water and chemical levels and for reporting maintenance needs to the Maintenance Director. When not involved in pool duties, the Lifeguard should participate in worship and be available to help with other camp activities as needed. Other duties as assigned. Lifeguarding certification is required.

Salary: $240/week

Media Coordinator: The Media Coordinator is responsible for documenting the summer camping programs and producing a weekly photograph slideshow for campers to purchase in the camp store. Responsibilities will include photographing and videotaping camp activities for every program, storing the created media for use in the weekly DVD and year-round promotional material, creating a multimedia DVD for campers to remember their week at camp, burning copies of the DVD for the camp store, and helping with other camp activities as needed. Other duties as assigned. Photography and artistic experience in some capacity, as well as media software experience, is desired.

Salary: $240/week

Maintenance Assistant: The Maintenance Assistant assists the Maintenance Director with the upkeep of our facilities. Responsibilities include garbage and recycling collection, stocking campfire sites, mowing, trimming, trail maintenance, stocking cleaning supplies, and other maintenance. When not busy with maintenance needs, the Maintenance Assistant is expected to help with other camp activities as needed (i.e. worships, campouts, games, etc.). Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $240/week

Off-Site Coordinator: The Off-Site Coordinator manages the pack-out room and ensures out trips are adequately supplied. Responsibilities include packing supplies for out trips, delivering supplies to trips, providing transportation for trips when needed, keeping an accurate inventory of what is in the pack-out room, and keeping designated areas clean and organized. Also responsible for the transportation of on-site luggage to villages in cooperation with the Maintenance Assistant, supplying villages with non-perishable supplies, and restocking villages as needed. Should help with worships and other camp activities when not busy with pack-out related duties. Other duties as assigned. Should be detail-oriented and must be at least 21 years of age.

Salary:$240/week

Team Driver: The Team Driver is responsible for the use, care, and safety of our team of horses and our wagons. Responsibilities include scheduling and providing wagon rides for camper and camp tours, delivering food to the various villages each day in cooperation with the kitchen staff, and ensuring a safe and fun experience with the horses. The Team Driver will work closely with the Wranglers to make sure that all campers get adequate time with horses both in wagon rides and trail rides and to maintain the cleanliness of our horse facilities, the health of our horses, and the safety of our horse program. Other duties as assigned. Must have prior horse experience and be experienced in driving and hitching up a team. Completion of one year of college or equivalent is preferred.

Salary: $240/week

Wrangler: The Wranglers are jointly responsible for our horse and our Junior Wrangler programs during the summer. Responsibilities include informing riders of safety procedures, caring for the horses, caring for tack and stable area, communicating with village leaders and cabin groups to schedule rides, and informing the Maintenance Director or Program Director of veterinary needs. Wranglers also work closely with the Team Driver in keeping the stables and tack room clean, organized, and safe for guests. With regards to Junior Wranglers, the Wranglers have similar responsibilities to the Camp Counselor. Should help with other programming needs of Sugar Creek when not busy with Wrangler duties. Other duties as assigned. Must have prior horse experience and must have completed one year of college or equivalent.

Leadership Staff:

Day Camp Team Leader: Day Camp Team Leaders are in charge of day camp teams as they conduct programming at various locations each week. Responsibilities will include: assisting the Program Director with staff training items related to day camps, packing supplies for day camps, leadership and direction for SCBC staff, communicating with and directing church volunteers, organizing and implementing the schedule for each day camp, record keeping, and implementing the day camp summer program as defined in staff training. Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent, have experience in a camp staff or leadership role, and carry a valid driver’s license. Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $245/week

In Camp Village Leader: Although similar to the Camp Counselor in responsibilities related to campers, the In Camp Village Leaders are also responsible for the staff and the implementation of programming in their assigned village. Duties will include facilitating the planning of village activities (worships, campfires, challenge course activities, and other village related programming), making decisions regarding the immediate safety of their village, providing support to the counselors in the village, and ensuring programming is implemented as defined in staff training. Also responsible for up to 12 campers in a cabin group setting (see description for Camp Counselor). Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent, have experience in a camp staff or leadership role. Other duties as assigned.

SIT-LIT Coordinator: The SIT-LIT Coordinator is responsible for the SIT-LIT program, creating the SIT-LIT curriculum in close collaboration with the Program Director, and implementing the curriculum in an effective manner. This includes helping to design a short version of staff training to be conducted with the campers their first week of the SIT-LIT program, helping them learn what it is to be a camp counselor, and then supporting them through their week of shadowing. This position also has much of the same responsibilities as a camp counselor would have. Other duties as assigned. Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent and have experience in a camp staff or leadership role.

Salary: $245/week

Assistant Program Directors:

Assistant Program Directors (APDs) assist the Program Director in managing the summer staff and implementing the summer program as defined during staff training.

Office/Day Camp APD: The Office/Day Camp APD’s responsibilities include program related office work (printing program materials, acquisition of health forms, phone calls, mail distribution, etc.), calling and staying in touch with churches for day camp, helping the Day Camp Village Leaders prepare each week, and helping to plan and lead the Explorer program. Other duties include assigning returning day camp groups to areas for Friday cleaning, working on any assigned tasks provided by the Administrative Director, and helping keep the Program Director informed of issues that arise. Other Duties as assigned. Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent, and have experience in a camp staff or leadership role.

Salary:$250/week

On Camp APD: The On Camp APD’s responsibilities include providing direction and support to village leaders and staff, organization and planning to ensure a smooth flow of village activities, aid fellow staff and APDs in planning worships and leading activities, and helping to keep the Program Director informed of issues that arise. Other duties include helping to plan and conduct staff training, conducting evaluations of assigned program areas, camper registration on Sundays, and greeting and including resource people. Other Duties as assigned. Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent, and have experience in a camp staff or leadership role.
