Job Title:Volunteer Co-ordinator

Grade: JNC pts 11-14 (20,796-23,721 FTE)

No of hours:14 hours per week

Responsible to:Charity Manager

Purpose and Scope of the Post

To have operational management ofvolunteers within unit/s or project/s which help meet the objectives and targets within the charity and youth work plans.

Main Tasks

  1. Manage volunteers – adults andyoung people – to support the educational, emotional and developmental needs of young people.
  1. To have or develop specialist expertise in delivering peer support, role modelling and education to the charity’s targeted groups.
  1. Undertake administration and finance duties attached to their face to face work including the record keeping of petty cash, recording memberships, attendance and evaluating the outcomes and achievements of volunteers.
  1. Have day to day responsibility for liaison with the charity managerand to hold keys to the building.
  1. Organise Unit briefing meetings and supervise the work of scale 1 and scale 2staff and volunteers including back to work interviews, supervision meetings and health & safety requirements.
  1. Assist their line manager in recruiting, developing and initial disciplining of staff, in accordance with the charity’s policies and procedures.
  1. Prepare reports and help to manage small project budgets of up to £10,000.
  1. Establish and maintain contact with other agencies working with young people in the area.
  1. Attend management supervision, team meetings, team days, Charity AGM and the annual staff conference.
  1. Work within an anti discriminatory framework.
  1. Ensure adherence to the charity’s policies and procedures and to keep up to date with relevant legislation.
  1. To carry out additional duties which are by negotiation and agreement and are commensurate with the post.
  1. To work evenings and other times by negotiation and agreement. Some posts may involve weekend andresidential work.
  1. Commitment to under-taking appropriate training as agreed with line manager.
  1. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults you have responsibility for, or come into contact with.

Experience
Experience of developing and delivering peer mentoring/education programmes with young people and/or adults.
Experience of managing and co-ordinating volunteers.
Experience of working with disaffected and ‘at risk’ people.
Experience of preparing, monitoring and evaluating projects.
Some experience of supervising workers and staff development.
