TITLE: Intranet and Digital Communications Manager (Maternity cover)

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 1: the role holder will not have contact with children and/or young people, or access to personal data about children or young people, as part of their work; therefore a police check will not be mandatory unless the content or location of the role changes, in which case the Child Safeguarding level will be reviewed.
ROLE PURPOSE:
This role will lead on maximising the effectiveness of our intranet (OneNet), the Save the Children International (SCI) website and social media as channels for internal and external communication, global collaboration and knowledge management. The role holder will:
1.  Champion OneNet internally, driving usage so it becomes embedded in our ways of working globally, enabling staff to connect and access relevant news and information. The role will be responsible for developing a lively intranet community including promoting the adoption of collaboration features as well as shaping the future direction of the platform.
2.  Oversee the SCI website ensuring content and country microsites are kept fresh and up to date and that digital and social media channels, including but not exclusive to Twitter, Facebook etc, are being used effectively to enhance the Save the Children brand.
3.  Generate high-quality global news stories for both the intranet and external website. This will include sourcing, editing and some writing.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency or crisis situation, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Role Dimensions: This role will have a global remit, working with country and regional offices as well as staff across the centre office in London
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :
OneNet:
·  In partnership with IT, develop and manage an annual work plan, for the development of OneNet in line with strategic and operational requirements.
·  Own the home page, strategy and internal communication sites: sourcing and updating content, uploading documents and managing social features.
·  In partnership with IT, build the capacity of chief editors from across the movement, ensuring they have the skills to use and drive use of the site.
·  In partnership with IT, champion effective knowledge management through the site by developing and embedding good practice, including document and library management, tagging usage and the promotion of key information.
·  In partnership with IT, develop and enhance governance documents, templates, policies guidance and training materials to support best practice usage of the site.
·  Help drive adoption of collaboration features and the development of online communities.
·  Work with the Internal Communication Director to shape and drive outcomes from the OneNet Steering Committee, ensuring tasks and actions are delivered.
Global News
·  Source, edit and write stories and features as appropriate to ensure OneNet and the website contain fresh and engaging news.
·  Develop a network of content contributors from across Save the Children to generate news and blog features.
Web and Social media
·  Oversee the SCI website, ensuring it is up to date and consistent with our communications’ goals for the site.
·  Manage the SCI Twitter account and provide advice to colleagues on the effective use of social media channels to enhance the Save the Children brand.
Monitoring and Best practice:
·  Analyse Google analytics and establish effective benchmarks for measuring the growth of traffic to sites.
·  Gather user feedback to scope out changes to improve the user experience and usage of OneNet and the website.
·  Monitor external development in good practice, and apply any learning internally.

QUALIFICATIONS
·  No specific qualifications are required for this role
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
·  Strong knowledge of using SharePoint (Essential) and Drupal (Desirable).
·  Demonstrable experience of managing a social intranet and developing and managing online communities.
·  Proven experience of coaching, training and building the capacity of others.
·  Strong experience of building networks and relationships leading to positive results. Able to tailor communication style to specific audience needs.
·  Strong editorial skills and able to create clear and engaging online content.
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·  Some experience in maximising use and potential of social media tools.
·  Ability to review online analytics and conduct usability reviews.
·  Good understanding of knowledge management principles.
·  Strong project management skills.
·  Highly developed interpersonal and skills, including influencing and negotiation.
·  Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in a diverse, international environment and federated structure
