INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

SATRC Workshop on Spectrum will be held from 19th to 21st April 2016 in Paro, Bhutan. The workshop is organized by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and hosted by the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA).

The SATRC Workshop on Spectrum is a part of the implementation of SATRC Action Plan Phase V which was adopted at 15th SATRC meeting held in 2014 in Paro, Bhutan. The workshop will discuss a number of issues in the areas of spectrum management such as requirement of spectrum for mobile broadband, spectrum re-farming, non-ionizing radiation safety in the frequency bands used for mobile phones, spectrum sharing and other related topics. The workshop will assist the SATRC members in their human resource development and provide an excellent opportunity to exchange views and experience among the SATRC members’ regulators and operators on the issues mentioned.

The workshop is planned for middle and high level technical managers who are involved in the subject matters.

PARTICIPATION AND REGISTRATION:

SATRC Members, Policy makers and regulators from other APT Members and executives from APT Affiliate Members can attend the workshop free of registration fee. Participation for Non-Members will be based on the payment of registration fees. Non-members please contact APT secretariat for participation.

On-site registration and distribution of badges will commence from 08.30 hours on Tuesday 19th April 2016 at the conference hall. Participants are required to bring their passports or other photo identification to receive their badges. The opening ceremony for the workshop will be at 09:30hours on the same day.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION RATE & RESERVATION:

The rooms for APT-fellowship participants will be arranged at the venue hotel. Meanwhile, since the workshop duration falls in the peak tourist season in the country, there are no additional rooms at the venue hotel. However, there are some rooms available at the hotels which are located nearby the venue hotel. Therefore, we recommend the non-fellowship participants to stay at the nearby hotels/resorts during the workshop.

The rooms are available on first come first served basis. Participants are recommended to make early reservations in order to get the rooms of their choice. Due to peak tourist season and the limited room availability, we may not be able to guarantee hotel reservation and special rates after the deadline: 31st March 2016.

Since the workshop duration falls on the peak tourist season, there may be difficulties in obtaining the confirmed flight ticket to Bhutan. Therefore, the participants are requested to do your flight reservations as early as possible.

WIRELESS LAN

Internet Access over wireless network will be available during the workshop. Participants who wish to utilize wireless facility are kindly requested to bring their own laptop computers with Wi-Fi capability.

TRANSPORTATION FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL:

Transport from Paro International Airport to the venue hotel and vice versa (as well as from respective hotel to venue hotel during workshop dates) will be arranged by BICMA. All participants who inform the APT and BICMA Secretariat of their flight arrivals in advance will be met on arrival. It takesless than half an hour from Airport to the Hotel.

VISA AND IMMIGRATION INFORMATION

Visa requirements to Bhutan may vary from the citizens of different countries. BICMA will arrange participant’s visa clearance letter and upon showing this letter, the visa will be issued at Paro International Airport.Participants are required to fill up the visa application form and send it to the official of BICMA along with the scan copy of their passport and the travel itinerary to:

INSURANCE

Due to the procedural difficulties and budgetary constraints, APT is not able to bear the cost of insurance for the participants, any medical expenses or any other expenses. APT, therefore, requests your administrations/organizations to kindly make necessary arrangements for insurance and medical coverage of your participants before travel.

About Bhutan

The Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia located at the eastern end of the Himalayas. It is bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India. To the west, it is separated from Nepal by the Indian state of Sikkim, while further south it is separated from Bangladesh by the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal. Bhutan's capital and largest city is Thimphu.

Bhutan's landscape ranges from subtropical plains in the south to the sub-alpine Himalayan heights in the north, where some peaks exceed 7,000 metres (23,000 ft). It has a total area of approximately 38394 km2 with an estimated population of 742,737. Bhutan's state religion is Vajrayana Buddhism.

Paro District is the name of a district (dzongkhag), valley, river and town with a populationof 20,000. It is one of the most historic valleys in Bhutan. The dominant language in Paro is Dzongkha, the national language. Paro has the international airport in Bhutan.

Language: The official language of Bhutan is Dzongkha.

Currency: The Ngultrum (Nu.) is the currency of Bhutan and its value is pegged to theIndian rupee. For money changing, banks and money changes are conveniently located in the city, at the airport, as well as at the hotel. One US$ is approximately equal to Nu. 68.00

Weather: Aprilfalls in the spring season. It would be pleasant weather and it will be neither hot nor cold. The temperature would be ranging from 8to 15 deg Celsius

Food:Bhutanese food is generally spicy with lots of chillies. However, one could alsofind continental, Indian, Thai and Chinese dishes.
