SAS CYO COACH CODE OF CONDUCT

As a St. Anastasia Coach, I recognize that my players and their parents look to me for guidance and expect me to lead by example. I realize that I will leave a lasting impression on the players in my care as well as their parents and therefore accept the CYO’s rules as written and agree to adhere to the following Code of Conduct. Specifically I agree to:

  1. Guide each player to be a better Christian and a better citizen and require that all players, coaches, officials and spectators be treated with respect.
  2. Remember that children participate to have fun and the game is for kids, not adults.
  3. Be a positive role model for the players and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy to athletes, officials, parents, other coaches and spectators at every game or practice.
  4. Refrain from engaging in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, athlete or parent such as verbal abuse, booing, taunting, throwing equipment, profane language or gestures or any other forceful action.
  5. Praise my players for competing fairly and trying hard and make my players feel like winners every time.
  6. Teach my players that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my players will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance. I agree to never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  7. Teach my players to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence. I agree to not lay hands upon, push, shove, strike, threaten to strike or physically abuse an athlete, coach, official or spectator.
  8. Promote the emotional and physical well being of the players ahead of any personal desire I may have for my team to win. I agree to teach each player, especially through my own example, to be humble and generous in victory and proud and courteous in defeat.
  9. Refrain from direct physical contact with players (i.e., pats on the buttocks) that could be construed as sexual in nature.
  10. Only roster players who are members of the St. Anastasia parish. I will not recruit players from outside the St. Anastasia parish to play for my team.

I recognize that failure to live up to these guidelines could result in disciplinary action, potential suspension or expulsion from participating in St. Anastasia CYO sports.
