Sara Campbell Brings Kundalini Yoga Training to Freediving World

Sara Campbell brings Kundalini Yoga training to freediving world

Sara to run series of yoga workshops in London

11th January 2010 : - Sara Campbell, the 37 year old World Champion freediver, who set a World Record of 96m in breathhold diving in April this year, and took the Silver medal at the Worlds, has today announced a series of yoga workshops she will be running at London’s top yoga centre, Alchemy.

The workshops are aimed at both yoga students and freedivers to demonstrate the benefits of Kundalini yoga across all areas of life and wellbeing, but in particular its application to freediving.

Sara shocked the world when she set three World Records within just nine months of starting the sport. Her secret? Many suspect her years of practicing Kundalini Yoga had given her a massive head start on her freediving competitors.

Sara said: “Yoga has helped my diving in so many ways; awareness of my physical body, in particular deep muscles necessary for mouthfill, ability to focus and relax under pressure, flexibility, breath control… the list is endless. Apart from that, Kundalini is the only form of yoga that gives me that euphoric, spaced out, buzzy feeling. It’s the best thing in the world!”

Dates of the workshops are:

Friday 22nd January 6-8pm - £20

Sunday 31st January 10am-1pm - £35

Sunday 28th March 10am-1pm; 2-5pm - £35 per half day

Sunday 30th May 10am-1pm; 2-5pm - £35 per half day

About Sara Campbell (www.sarafreediver.com)

Sara Campbell, 37, took three World Records in the incredible sport of freediving, in under 48 hours, and then claimed Gold at the World Championships, just nine months after taking up the sport. In April last year she added 96m Constant Weight to her three former World titles (90m CWT, 81m FIM and 56 CNF), and in December claimed Silver at the World Championships for Britain.

A yoga and meditation instructor, Sara embodies the mental focus required of this extreme sport. Her love for the ocean is expressed through her diving, and her calm love of the water is what she claims is her secret for diving so deep.

Sara lives and trains in Dahab on the Red Sea, where she also runs her yoga and freediving programmes, ‘Discover Your Depths’. Dahab is famous for the Blue Hole, a stunning 95m vertical rift in the coral reef, providing calm, sheltered, clear warm waters, ideal for freediving.

Sara is an Ambassador for The BLUE Project, advocating small daily change in order to protect the oceans and slow down, and ultimately reverse, climate change. By demonstrating the beauty and fragility of the precious ocean reef systems, Sara hopes to encourage small daily changes in other peoples’ behaviour and shopping choices.

About Alchemy (www.alchemythecentre.co.uk)

Originally one of the historic stables built in the late 1800's this magnificent space is blessed with expansive rooms and airy vaulted ceilings. Large windows permit the brilliant flow of natural light. It is a place to behold. In redesigning it, those stunning original elements were preserved and also enhanced with the modern amenities that make Alchemy so unique. But as you'll soon discover, there's far more here than just beauty that meets the eye.

From the moment you enter, it's obvious that our space is like no other. The atmosphere is tranquil and calming, but also uniquely energising. In addition to the private treatment rooms there are two Great Rooms, each with their own distinctive purpose. The Yoga Room is designed for the more active processes of Yoga, in which consciousness is transformed by physical movement. The Circle Room allows one the opportunity for inner reflection. Through powerful meditative practices such as the Circle for Inner Peace, we fine tune our awareness and begin to know who we really are.
