“Santorini Experience” comes on the first 3 days of May!

Let your energy erupt in “Santorini Experience”! The ultimate sports event comes on May 01st - 03rd 2015, on the magical island of Santorini!

On Saturday, May 2nd the experience for the participants begins with the swimming route of 1.5 miles (2.4 km) in a dreamy environment. The starting line will be in the water in the harbor of the volcano. The finishing line will be at the pier of the old port of Fira in a specially formatted finish arch. The athletes will be transferred to the starting area by boat and they should be at the old port at least 1 hour before the scheduled starting time. The contestants can access the old port by using the cable car connecting Fira to the old port.

On Sunday, May 3rd the action is “transferred” to Oia. “Santorini Experience” route is one of the nicest for running, since the magical panoramic views of the volcano, the caldera and colors of volcanic stone will impress all athletes.

Regarding racing, the elevation changes on all routes 5, 10 and 15 km, will test the endurance and the forces of all participants. The routes don’t have dangerous places but include stairs, gravel, stone paths and a small asphalt track that will need special attention in downhill tracks for avoiding injuries, especially those who will move in a racing pace.

The starting and finishing lines are at the same point. Athletes running the 5 km route will make a reversal at the 2.5 km (1st supply station), the athletes of the 10 km route at the 5 km (2nd supply station) and the athletes of the long distance of 15 km at the 7.5 km (3rd supply station). In the event there will be no timing or age categories. Everyone who has the will and ability can participate and be part of “Santorini Experience”.

It is worth noting that the organization will offer part of each participation fee to the concentration of a total amount to be given to Thira Municipality for the construction of an athletic field in the Santorini island.

Participations for the event will be accepted until Thursday 30/04/2015 electronically at: http://www.santorini-experience.com/registration_en.php or at Alafouzos Sport store in Fira.

The secretary office of the event will be open at the starting line on Sunday 03/05/2015 from 7:30 am until 10:00 am. On Friday 01/05 and on Saturday 02/05 the athletes will also be able to receive their “racing” packet from Alafouzos Sport store in Fira. On the day of the event there will be no registrations.

For anyone who wishes to travel to Santorini and participate in “Santorini Experience”, there will be a 30% discount in his/her ferry tickets (passenger and vehicle) by Blue Star Ferries. Necessary precondition is your paid participation in the event.

The event takes place for the first time by Thira Municipality, Municipal Sports Cultural & Environmental Organization in Santorini (DAPPOS) and Active Media Group.
