Call to Order

New Business

Orange PL: Currently digitize newspapers (mostly local Orange City paper); available in-house & remotely

Currently use PTSF (rough cost: $8,000-$10,000 annually), paid for by Friends and/or Foundation

Stated that they tried to get proof of copyright from OC Register; Register could not verify copyright, and stated it in email, thus able to make available to the public remotely.

Newport Beach PL: NBPL in transitions to fill open positions (Librarian I/II & part-time LA’s); Corona Del Mar Branch to be rebuilt (& a joint-use facility with the local fire authority); completed refurbishment of ‘Popular Library’; took part in Anaheim WonderCon (reached 1,400 people & issued 126 library cards); took part in Celebrate UCI event (issued 35 library cards); added a second VHS converter to their Media Lab; Next Goal= refurbish Adult Computer Area to make it more user-friendly

Yorba Linda PL: YLPL plans to purchase two Mac computers with full software (such as Adobe Suites) to offer unique services to users; allocated a LSTA grant for $11,000 to start a Music Lending Library (plans to lend Sheet Music, Guitars, Ukuleles); Prepping for Summer Reading Programs; continue to digitize local history photograph collection

Placentia PL:Moving to one-desk service model on May 30; Currently reworking lobby area to accommodate changes, including adding a laptop bar; recruiting internally for a Public Services Manager; about to launch Volgistics to help schedule volunteers; currently use Advanced Media to digitize local history materials, Placentia history films; uploading film materials to Youtube to make items more readily available to the public; currently digitizing subject files.

Fullerton PL: FPL completed a book with History Press titled, Fullerton: The Boom Years; through last year’s LSTA grant received a new scanner to digitize materials (slides/newspapers); currently allow public to scan personal history materials, such as photographs, by appointment; still working on updating Makerspace area; Summer Reading events start June1; executing Financial Literacy Workshops for adults, plans to provide workshops to teens in the future; hosting 5 Score Workshops a month for local business community; looking to revive library services in the southwest part of Fullerton (where branch had closed)

SLS Committee agreed to continue independent Local History Meetings. Next Meeting will be held in November.
