San Mateo County Fall Prevention Task Force Meeting

January 18, 2007, 1 PM – 3 PM

Meeting Notes

Meeting Attendees: Denise Altomare, Zhanna Ashkinaziy-Abuel, Patrice Christensen, Ellen Corman, Katie O. Flynn, Lois Glover, Jean Harrison, Sue Horst, Josh Kelley, Kitsum Li, Marianne Mannia, Martin Simenc, Evelyn Subido, Marie Violet, April Watson, Nancy Keegan, Garry Sneper.

1.  Explanation of revised Community Education Form (Zhanna Ashkinaziy-Abuel). Zhanna reviewed a revised form and an example of how to fill out the form for reporting community education and health screening units. A lengthy discussion ensued about what does or does not count toward both types of units. The confusion comes from the fact that the Task Force is unlike all other Aging & Adult Services grantees in that we are not a formal organization with staff, nor do we do direct service provision. Zhanna will try to get clarification from her department and report back at the next meeting. Members are asked to think about the units they report and bring them to the next meeting for discussion.

2.  Workgroup reports

i.  Pricing Policy for Sit & Be Fit Videos (Ellen Corman). Ellen reported a glitch exists on the current beginning level DVD, which will be corrected for all future orders. She also shared a draft policy for purchasing the videos (see attached). It was agreed that organizations outside the 9 Bay Area Counties that want to order the videos in bulk will be referred directly to Sit and Be Fit for those orders. April also agreed to check the contract with Sit and Be Fit to find any language about our distribution beyond the Bay Area.

ii. Training of Trainers (Patrice Christensen). Patrice reported that 5 people are currently registered for the TOT on February 5. She encouraged all members to continue to spread the word about the training. April agreed to contact Sequoia Adult Education and Martin will contact home care agencies to let them know of the training. Patrice requested that anyone wishing to share brochures or handouts for the TOT send them to her by February 1 at: Patrice Christensen, SMC Health Dept, 225 37th Ave, San Mateo, 94403.

iii.  Website (Josh Kelley). Josh reported that we now have $2,800 in-hand for the website and will begin asking for bids from web developers. He also requested that members begin to submit their content to Kitsum. It was suggested that the workgroup look at the Rebuilding Together website for ideas, particularly having a “For Caregivers” tab on the site. It was also suggested later in the meeting that a beta test version of the website be tested with seniors.

3.  One-Time-Only funds proposal (April Watson). April passed out copies of the OTO proposal that was submitted. The Task Force asked for $4,800 to fund dubbing of the 2 videos into Cantonese. A discussion ensued about which language would be most appropriate, Cantonese or Mandarin. It was agreed that, upon receiving the funds, a workgroup should be formed to decide this and to complete the project.

4.  FY08 Work Plan draft (Denise Altomare). Denise circulated copies of the draft work plan for FY08 (see attached), which was based on results of our group activity last meeting. Any feedback on the plan should be sent to Denise by February 14 so it can then be finalized.

5.  Financial report & revised budget. April circulated copies of the budget and cash flow as of 12/31/06.

6.  Other / Announcements. Ellen reported on the previous day’s webcast and will send the website address for an interesting website from Michigan State.
