FORMAT: Each division will play in a double-elimination format (unless there are not
enough participating teams that we make it into a round-robin format). The
format and the rules being used are that of the Speedo Cup National
Championships which gives a minimum 4 games to a maximum of 6 games
(usually to medal contenders) throughout the weekend.
AWARDS: 15 Gold Medals for each division
15 Silver Medals for each division
15 Bronze Medals for each division
7 All-Tournament Team Trophies for each division
1 Tournament MVP Award for each division
1 Silver glass-bottomed Pilsner for each division’s Champion Coach
PLAYING RULES: 2012 USWP rules including:
- All teams must meet grade level requirement.
- All athletes, coaches, and Clubs must be USWP registered for 2012.
- Teams are limited to 15 players, although we will allow more on your roster upon request, but we only award 15 medals per team.
- The course will be 25 yards with wall cages, except for where floating goals are necessary.
- The ball size for all divisions except 10U (Size 3) will be Kap7 size 4.
- Each team will be entitled to two timeouts per game.
- Ties in advancement games outside original bracket will be played out with one sudden death overtime period. Any remaining timeouts from the previous four quarters can be carried over. In all medal games we will use the two 3-minute overtime rule.
- Ties within brackets will be determined by “fewer goals against.” This will keep teams from having to run-up the score. Instead, teams will focus on defense and allowing fewer goals.
- Code of Conduct toward officials and Scorer’s Table Staff will be upheld.
- Only coaches listed on your team roster will be allowed on the bench.
- Ejection areas are opposite the scorer’s table, unless otherwise noted before the game.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Tournament t-shirts will be sold for $15 during the event at each pool venue. Sizes and quantity are limited, so advise your athletes to buy early.
TOURNAMENT RULES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- It is a USWP rule that a fine of $50 to the violating Club for playing an unregistered athlete and a fine of $25 to the unregistered athlete will be enforced.
- Tournament entry fee and team registration is due no later than Sunday, April 1. No exceptions. Without on-time payment, you are not guaranteed placement in the tournament. Verified rosters are due no later than April 29. All teams must provide their own warm-up balls and game caps. Counter-Attack balls and game ball will be provided by the tournament host.
- All players must wear the same cap number throughout the tournament. First team listed will wear the dark caps and are the “home” team.
- RAIN or SHINE. We suggest that your team bring canopies for shelter from the elements.
- Any forfeits result in a $50 fine per game to the offending team. Games are ruled a forfeit 5 minutes after the scheduled start time or if a team does not have at least 7 players on their roster ready to play at the start. It is the responsibility of the coach or team manager to follow the tournament schedule.
- All coaches must submit their All-Tournament Nominations by the 12:00 noon on Sunday, May 2nd. Coaches who do not submit their ballots will disqualify their players from All-tournament selection.
FOOD BARS: the Food Bars are set-up for the benefit of all athletes and families in the tournament. Prices are competitive with outside fast-food vendors so we ask that teams patronize the Food Bars. There will be a Food Bar at selected venues serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks and drinks all day.
VERIFIED ROSTERS: Coaches or team leaders are required to submit a verified roster of their team on the USWP web site. Under team name please enter the name of your team plus the division you would like to enter the team in, for example San Diego Shores Boys AA. LAST NOTE TO COACHES: Coaches will be e-mailed and or faxed the tournament schedule by Sunday April 29th. Included will be any final announcements you must know prior to the event. Please promote team spirit, sportsmanship, and having fun. Please prep your parents as to the proper etiquette in dealing with officials and table personnel.
San Diego Shores Water Polo Club reserves the right to refuse entrance to who ever they choose be it individual, club or athlete. This tournament represents good sportsmanship and will only host athletes and spectators with strong character.
