For Immediate Release

San Diego, Cal., Dec. 13, 2016 –The San Diego International Auto Show(SDIAS)is partnering with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department to host the Remembrance Rescue Project. The project, which will be in the San Diegoarea throughout 2017, kicks off at the SDIAS. Former FDNY Rescue 5 from that tragic day, in addition to artifacts recovered at Ground Zero, will be on display at the San Diego Convention Center for the duration of the show, and will be staffed by local firefighters who will act as docents for the educational platform.

“Since June 2016 the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department has been the host for the Remembrance Rescue Project in the San Diego County Area,”said J. Jafari Harris, SDFR Fire Captain / Rescue Remembrance Project host.

“During its stay in San Diego, Rescue 5 has been to over 30 large events as well as countless smaller events and visits. These events have included schools, street fairs, career expos, fire station open houses, sporting events, and 9/11 memorial remembrances where it has reached thousands of San Diegans and visitors.

“It is an honor and a privilege to share this amazing piece of history with the attendees of the San Diego International Auto Show,” concluded Harris.

The Remembrance Rescue Project is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit created by firefighters to restore, preserve and share former FDNY Rescue 4 and Rescue 5 from 9/11 as educational tools, historical artifacts and memorials. The Project involving former FDNY Rescue 4 and Rescue 5 is an educational effort focused at society, especially youngsters who were too young to actually understand the events of September 11th and what that day means to members of the fire service and the country as a whole.

The Project works with fire departments across the country to host the Rescues throughout the year. The Project coordinates with host fire departments to facilitate 9/11 educational programming, memorials, and remembrance events. The Project strives to keep the memories alive of those lost on September 11th and all firefighters killed in the line of duty every year.

The Project is 100% volunteer with firefighters from across the country donating their time. Donations are used for fuel, maintenance and travel costs for the Rescues. Any donations made to the project from the Auto Show, Exhibitors, or attendees would be appreciated and help to sustain the project.

The SDIAS is extremely proud to bring this exhibit to its attendees to honor the fallen and to inform the next generation.
