The social and competitive world of bridge awaits through free lessons offered at the Grand Slam Bridge Club in Spades, Tenn.

“Bridge is the world’s greatest game of the mind,” said club manager Pat Bridgeplayer. “It’s stimulating and challenging and it also provides the ideal setting for socializing with interesting people and making new friends.”

BRIDGE ACES HONORED

The Memphis Unit of the American Contract Bridge League celebrated its aces Tuesday, June 7, at an awards ceremony at the Grand Slam Bridge Club in Spades, Tenn.

The annual event recognized bridge players who earned the most points for their bridge expertise during 2004 based on their level of experience.

Included among the winners was Mary Diamond of Memphis, who at 95 still plays at the club three times a week.

“Once you play bridge, you’ll never play any other card game. I told my doctor once this is my health food,” Ward said. And Ward provided the proof by winning the game following the ceremony with her partner, Joe Heart of Memphis.
